Pro-Trump Radio Host Gives the Game Away On Susan Collins’s Todd Blanche Vote

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) will be voting against confirming Todd Blanche as Attorney General, but the decision is simply a “savvy” workaround concocted by her team to keep her constituents happy, said right-wing host John Fredericks.
Fredericks explained:
So Collins knew—no, her team knew. She’s got a very savvy team thats been there a long tine. They know that even without her, Blanche has the 50 votes to get confirmed, or 51, I think he’ll get 50. So this was a vote to help her get elected, to help her with Maine voters, but it does nothing to hurt Todd Blanche because he’s already got the votes.”
Collins announced Wednesday she intends to vote against Blanche.
“While I believe Mr. Blanche is a capable lawyer, the Department of Justice has become increasingly political,” she said in a statement. “Mr. Blanche has taken several actions that have further eroded the Department’s independence, and that is the basis for my vote to oppose his confirmation.”
Collins is currently seeking reelection. She has been challenged by Democrat Troy Jackson, who was selected by Maine Democrats in July to replace Graham Platner.
In a speech delivered at a state nomination convention, Jackson said of Collins, ““For nearly 30 years, Collins has told Maine that she is ‘concerned.’ She was concerned while she rubber-stamped Trump’s Medicaid cuts and gutted our health care. She’s concerned when she cut taxes for corporations and the wealthy, concerned when she confirmed justices who overturned Roe V. Wade. And really tragically, she was concerned when she gave ICE billions to terrorize our neighbors.”
Also on Friday, Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), another potential Blanche holdout, revealed he plans to vote to confirm the acting Attorney General. “Mr. Blanche is not perfect and he will tell you this,” Cassidy said on the Senate floor. “But the choice is not between Mr. Blanche and perfection.”
