Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker didn’t mince words when President Donald Trump’s latest political rhetoric came up on CNN.

The exchange began after Collins referenced Trump’s language toward Democrats who call themselves democratic socialists. Collins said the president had framed those Democrats as “the greatest threat to the country since its founding. ” and tied that claim to major U.S. events, including World War I, World War II, Pearl Harbor and 9/11.

When it was Pritzker’s turn to respond, he attacked Trump’s mental state directly. “The man is continually suffering from dementia,” Pritzker said. “I don’t think he really understands what he’s saying. The truth is that. I mean. this is a man who’s threatened to jail the mayor of Chicago. the governor of Illinois. He regularly threatens to go after people and indeed has used the Department of Justice to go after people. So. you know. he just. I think he has these concepts in his head. and he blurts them out without really thinking.”.

Collins then pressed him with a straightforward question: “Do you really think the president has dementia?”

Pritzker doubled down. “I do, I do,” he replied. He said he based that view on how Trump behaved during the 2015 and 2016 period compared with how he speaks now. “I think if you look at any of the videos from 2015 or 2016 and look at how he responded to questions and how he was at press conferences and then you fast forward and look at him now. I really think that there’s something genuinely wrong with him. ” Pritzker said. He added, “I’m not a doctor. I haven’t diagnosed anything. I’m just suggesting to you that just look at the way he puts words and sentences together and thoughts and they’re almost divergent in the same sentences.”.

The White House responded quickly, pushing back on the allegation while turning the focus back on Pritzker. In a statement read by Collins. the White House called Pritzker “a certifiable loser” who has “done a terrible job running his state. ” and said “Everybody sees it clearly except for him.” The statement added. “He must have dementia.”.
