Gov. JB Pritzker was treated by a doctor at a Springfield hospital late Wednesday night after his urology procedure ran into what his office described as a “minor complication,” spokesman Matt Hill said Friday.
Hill said Pritzker had “a minor complication from his urology procedure” and was seen by a doctor at a Springfield hospital, but the governor did not stay overnight. The office said Pritzker is “doing great.”
The governor planned to work a full day Friday, though there were no public events listed on his schedule. Legislators are in session this week, with adjournment scheduled for May 31. Pritzker typically stays at the Governor’s Mansion in Springfield on key session days.
Pritzker, 61, had a “routine outpatient urology procedure” on May 1 and stepped back from public duties for a week.. He returned to public work on Monday, appearing at a press conference alongside Mayor Brandon Johnson and Lt.. Gov.. Juliana Stratton, as well as Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin.
When asked Monday whether he was disclosing any ongoing concerns or treatments related to his medical procedure, Pritzker responded with a laugh: “Nope. You guys got plenty of information.”
The governor’s office said Pritzker worked throughout Thursday, meeting with legislators, Illinoisans and staff after the complication. Hill said the governor had a full day of work on Thursday.
Pritzker has rarely disclosed health issues since taking office in January 2019. In 2022, he continued his duties but worked from home after a COVID-19 diagnosis, saying at the time he was experiencing mild symptoms and was taking Paxlovid.
