Prince William’s kiss to Beatrice reinforced family unity

Prince William may have kept his distance from the spotlight in recent months, but the moment outside All Saints’ Church in Kemble, England, drew immediate attention: he greeted Princess Beatrice with a kiss on the cheek.
Beatrice and Princess Eugenie had stepped out in support of their cousin. Peter Phillips. for his royal wedding on Sunday. June 6. The groom, 48, married NHS nurse Harriet Sperling. The wedding marked a rare public outing for the York sisters at a time when their father. Andrew Mountbatten Windsor. remains at the center of an ongoing scandal.
Beatrice, 37, arrived at the church alongside her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, who held an umbrella over her head. She walked into the church ahead of Eugenie, also in attendance. Eugenie arrived with her husband, Jack Brooksbank.
Peter Phillips’ wedding also carried a personal backstory for those in the family. Peter was previously married to Autumn Kelly, and they share two daughters; their marriage ran from 2008 to 2021.
The event took place against a backdrop of disruption for Andrew. The 66-year-old was stripped of his royal titles in October 2025, months before being arrested for alleged misconduct in public office. He was released from jail within hours, and neither Beatrice nor Eugenie, nor Andrew, has addressed the allegations.
For Princess Anne’s daughter and son-in-law. the appearance offered a clear visual signal that family events still mattered—even as others have chosen to step back. Emily Nash. royal editor and host of A Right Royal Podcast. pointed to what she saw in the interaction between the women and their wider circle.
Nash said the attendance and the public exchange mattered because it came after a difficult stretch for the royal family. She noted that some people had been “laying low” in recent weeks. and that it was striking to see Beatrice and Eugenie interacting with their cousins during a moment when tensions were visibly running in the background.
At one point, Nash underscored the symbolic weight of the kiss itself. She said it “signify[ied]” that there are real, personal relationships within the family, and that the bond can still be seen even when the press is focused on what’s going wrong.
Family unity didn’t mean everyone was present, though. Prince Harry was noticeably absent. Hello! Magazine reported that Harry never received an invitation after he had not “spoken” to Peter in several years.
Nash framed the absence as understandable. She said Harry and Peter likely had a closer relationship when they were younger, but that people do grow apart. She also noted that. as Harry has been in the United States. they’ve “lost touch” in the last few years. Even if an invitation had come. Nash said it’s unlikely he would have accepted—because no one wants to turn someone else’s wedding into a spectacle.
While the wedding itself brought the York sisters into view, it also highlighted the uneasy balance they’re trying to strike right now: showing up for family while living with the aftershocks of their father’s arrest scandal.
