Buckingham Palace rebukes allegations against Charles in Diana book
Buckingham Palace is pushing back on allegations made against King Charles by his former brother-in-law in an upcoming book about Princess Diana.
LONDON – Prince Harry may have another royal documentary up his sleeve.
USA TODAY understands that the Duke of Sussex is discussing a number of possible projects to commemorate the 30th anniversary of his mother Princess Diana’s death next year but that he is still weighing the most meaningful way to honor her legacy.
Among the ideas to mark the milestone is the possibility of making a documentary, People and The Telegraph reported Sept. 21, citing unnamed sources. The documentary is expected to be bought by Netflix.
Harry, the youngest of Diana’s sons, has reportedly been in contact with the late Princess of Wales’ family and friends about the possible project.
The duke, who moved back to Britain last month after six years overseas, is no stranger to talking in front of rolling cameras.
Shortly after he and wife Meghan stepped away from their senior roles as working royals in 2020, they signed a Netflix deal. In 2022 they released a docuseries titled “Harry & Meghan” which explored the early days of their relationship to their controversial exit from royal life.
For Diana’s previous milestone anniversary, marking 20 years since her death, Harry and his older brother Prince William joined forces on two TV documentaries – ITV’s “Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy” and the BBC’s “Diana, 7 Days” – which aired in 2017 and featured those who were in her inner circle.
However, Diana’s sons remain estranged amid an ongoing royal rift and it is unclear if they will reunite next summer to mark the 30 year anniversary.
During Harry’s trip to the U.K. in July ahead of his family’s surprise move back to England, he and his older brother did not appear to reunite despite being only a dozen miles apart for separate public engagements.
Harry, who was 12 when his mother died in a car crash during a paparazzi pursuit, has described being in denial for years after her sudden death on Aug. 31, 1997.
The prince wrote in his 2023 memoir, “Spare,” that he was so desperate for some form of closure that he once asked his driver to take him through the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris, the scene of the fatal crash. Once they were traveling at the same reported 65 mph that his mom’s driver, Henri Paul – who was later found to be intoxicated – was driving when Diana’s car crashed, the full realization of the loss hit the duke.
“She’s dead, I thought. My God, she’s really gone for good,” he wrote. “I got the closure I was pretending to seek. I got it in spades. And now I’d never be able to get rid of it.”
Harry and William’s uncle, Earl Charles Spencer, released a book about his sister Diana on Sept. 22. In the bombshell memoir, Spencer writes that there was a “lack of obvious care” for grieving Prince Harry and that the young royal was “allowed to spin out of control” following his mother’s death.
