Prime Video’s Every Year After fills TSITP void

Prime Video’s – Prime Video is set to turn Carley Fortune’s romance-heavy novel Every Summer After into Every Year After, bringing a familiar TSITP-style summer drama—without the long-running love triangle. With a June 10, 2026 release date, the series follows Persephone “Per

For fans of The Summer I Turned Pretty, the waiting has always felt like part of the deal—summer after summer, questions after questions. But Prime Video’s newest book adaptation is arriving with the kind of TSITP energy that makes the “in the meantime” promise actually mean something.

Every Year After, based on Carley Fortune’s novel Every Summer After, is set to land on Prime Video on June 10, 2026. And while Cousins Beach might already feel like home for viewers, this story carries Percy Fraser back to Barry’s Bay—where old feelings don’t stay buried forever.

In the present-day timeline of the series. 30-year-old Persephone “Percy” Fraser (Sadie Soverall) has spent most of her life in Toronto. She’s a senior editor for an interior design magazine in the novel. and she’s also haunted by the memories of childhood she’s worked hard to bury ever since she turned 18. Then a call comes in about a loved one’s death—and just like that. Percy is pulled back toward everything she swore she’d outgrow.

Her suitcase is packed, and Barry’s Bay becomes unavoidable again. In the show, the place is reimagined as a fictional location in British Columbia. In the book, Barry’s Bay isn’t set in Ontario either; the series keeps the boundaries fluid, but the emotional geography stays sharp.

The story moves through two timelines. with the past unfolding year by year across six summers. leading all the way to Percy’s final year in Barry’s Bay. Long before she becomes guarded. she’s 13-year-old Percy: a shy horror nerd with towering insecurities and a fragile friendship with Delilah (Abigail Cowen). one of the most popular girls at school. When her parents purchase a cottage in Barry’s Bay for their summer vacations, her lonely summer changes fast. She meets the Florek brothers—Charlie (Michael Bradway) and Sam (Matt Cornett)—and the season starts to feel less like an escape and more like a turning point.

But Every Year After’s biggest hook for TSITP viewers may be how it reframes what the drama is *about*. Yes, it’s packed with dreamy summery vibes and messy emotions. It also keeps the character dynamics that already feel familiar: Percy and Belly (Lola Tung) are both young and naïve compared to their peers. eager to look more mature than they are. and neither has experienced a serious romance before their summer vacations. The Florek brothers mirror the Fisher brothers in a classic opposites setup—Charlie is outgoing and charismatic while Sam is quiet and reserved. Percy’s close bond with Sue (Elisha Cuthbert). Sam and Charlie’s mom. echoes Belly’s relationship with Susannah Fisher (Rachel Blanchard).

Still. the central conflict doesn’t hinge on a love triangle the way it often does in The Summer I Turned Pretty. Every Year After is instead built around Percy learning how to forgive herself for what happened in Barry’s Bay—and realizing she can’t run from it forever. In the novel. Percy’s actions create a major rift between her and the people around her. and the present-day return—over a decade later. right when old wounds begin to heal—turns that past rift into something that won’t stay still.

Prime Video’s version also expands how Percy’s life looks on the road back. In the book, Percy only interacts with people via phone or text. In the series, she does not return alone; she is joined by her best friend Chantal (Aurora Perrineau). That addition opens up opportunities for the show to deepen Percy’s friendships beyond her relationship with the Floreks. The series similarly gives more room to side characters like Delilah. Sue. Sam’s best friend Jordie (Joseph Chiu). and Sam’s and Charlie’s world.

There’s also a moment that will land for viewers who already know the novel’s most memorable beats. The series shows Sam and Percy’s present-day reunion at The Tavern. where Sam repeats the line from the book: “You came home.” For readers and romance-drama fans looking for recognizable emotional punctuation. it’s the kind of callback that feels earned.

The show’s creative team sits behind the scenes, too: Amy Harris and Leila Gerstein are credited as showrunners. Gillian Robespierre, Tara Nicole Weyr, and Jeffrey W. Byrd are listed as directors. Writers include Julie Rottenberg and Elisa Zuritsky.

One more detail matters for anyone tracking what comes next: the season ends in a way that naturally leads into a potential second season. That’s a big deal for a story designed to keep asking what time doesn’t erase.

So while The Summer I Turned Pretty movie release date is still unconfirmed, Every Year After is set up to do something specific—offer TSITP fans a familiar summer-surge of romance and longing, then turn the lights toward the aftermath. Percy’s happy ending isn’t the point. The confrontation is.
