When the NHL Draft returns later this year, Nashville’s front office already decided what it wants to build next.

On June 16. 2026. Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager Chris MacFarland announced the team has acquired forward Ross Colton and goaltender Isak Posch from the Colorado Avalanche. The price is steep: Nashville sent its own third-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft. Colorado’s own third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft (previously transferred to Nashville in a prior transaction). and goaltender Magnus Chrona.

“We are very excited to add Ross Colton to our forward mix,” MacFarland said. “Ross is a versatile, two-way winger who will add sandpaper and grit into our middle six group.”

Colton, 29 (9/11/96), comes to Nashville after producing for Colorado in 2025-26: 24 points (9g-15a), a +9 rating, and 153 shots in 73 games. He also delivered 159 hits in 2025-26, third on the Avalanche—an identity that fits the role MacFarland described. The 6-foot, 194-pound forward has scored 89 goals over six seasons.

His best scoring year came in 2023-24, when he reached a career-high in points with 40 (17g-23a). In the playoffs, Colton has been there every season: he has tallied 28 points (13g-5a) across 75 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, reaching the postseason each of his six NHL campaigns.

Colton’s path to the NHL runs through familiar development stops. He is a native of Robbinsville. New Jersey. and was originally selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the fourth round (118th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft. He debuted on Feb. 24. 2021. scoring the game-winning goal in a 3-0 win over Carolina; he became the second player in Lightning history to score a game-winning goal in his debut. He won the Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay in the 2020-21 season, recording six points (4g-2a) in 23 playoff games.

Before reaching the NHL, Colton skated for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (USHL), the University of Vermont Catamounts (NCAA), and the Lightning’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch.

Behind the players, Nashville also addressed its crease with Posch. MacFarland described him as a long-term addition.

“Isak Posch is a talented young netminder who was selected to play in the AHL All-Star game this past year,” MacFarland said. “He is a big goaltender who will add to our already impressive goalie depth.”

Posch spent parts of the past two seasons with the Colorado Eagles, the Avalanche’s AHL affiliate. In 2025-26, he posted a 15-8-4 record with two shutouts, a 2.78 goals-against average and an .891 save percentage. A Umea, Sweden, native, he was named to the 2026 AHL All-Star Classic for the Pacific Division.

The transaction pulls together a two-part picture for Nashville: bringing in Colton’s physical. two-way presence for the middle six. and adding Posch as another option in a goalie group already described by the team as deep. The draft capital Nashville is giving up—along with Magnus Chrona—signals the urgency of the move for the organization’s next roster shape.

  1. Colton and Posch for a couple draft picks and a goalie seems kinda wild. Like are they trying to win now or rebuild later? Also who is Magnus Chrona never heard of him.

  2. Wait I thought Nashville already had a goalie named Chrona? Maybe it’s a different one. And sending a third in 2027 that was already traded to Nashville is confusing… so they’re paying twice? I’m probably reading it wrong but that math doesn’t add up.

  3. The headline makes it sound like predators landed players like an airplane crash or something. Anyway Colton sounds tough which is good for the ‘grit’ thing they always talk about. If they shipped off their goalie though, that’s a big gamble, hope Posch can actually stop pucks because the Avs never struggle with that on TV.
