I booked a Tenerife luxury resort and got history too

Often when I sit down to plan a holiday, I have to make a choice. Do I want to head off to a resort and plop myself on a sun lounger by a pool for a few days, or do I want to stick on my walking shoes and head through the old town of a cobbled city. So when the opportunity came along to jet off to the north of Tenerife to stay at the newly renovated Precise Resort Tenerife my interest peaked. Nestled

on a cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and surrounded by 40,000 square metres of botanical gardens, the resort is chock full of everything needed for a bit of rest and recovery – pools, a spa, gardens and saunas. But just a short stroll is one of the most stunning Spanish cities I have ever walked through. I had hit the holiday jackpot. The huge resort has just officially opened in Puerto de la Cruz, an old port town in the north of Tenerife, following a

two-year, €10 million renovation and we jetted off to the resort for a few days in May to check out everything on offer. Precise Hotels and Resorts are an international hotel group operating properties across Europe, but the team don’t just operate a chain of hotels, at the heart of the Precise philosophy is a commitment to restoring places with identity, character, and connection to their surroundings. This shines through the moment you step into the lobby, with greenery plotted around the foyer alongside huge

glass windows looking out onto the Atlantic and a long balcony to let the ocean air blow onto your face, anyone booked in for a stay will get a sense of what the resort is all about as they check in. Holiday makers certainly will not go bored at Precise Resort Tenerife. The complex boasts an absolutely incredible selection of leisure and sport activities, including tennis, padel, mini golf, fitness, a diving school and lush gardens. The resort has three clay tennis courts and four

padel courts in the middle of the spacious area, alongside a unique mini golf course with a beautiful sea view unparalleled in Puerto de la Cruz. But if mini-golf isn’t your jam, Tenerife offers nine uniquely designed golf courses, two of which sit on the north part of the island. Those who don’t want to miss out on a bit of exercise while away will be happy to know there is a fitness center, with a huge glass window front to take in the dreamlike

garden views. So between morning time yoga sessions, padel classes and mini-golf, you can spend hours without leaving the complex. Precise Resort Tenerife has two freshwater pool areas, as well as a luxurious sun terrace and a comfortable lounging area for anyone hoping to lay out, read a book and go for a dip. The pools are right beside the ocean and you can hear the waves hit the rocks below as you swim, it is just perfect. One of the most idyllic spots in

the resort is the sauna area. Just a minute walk from the pools, and down some steps you will find an open air jacuzzi and three sauna huts, as well as some gazebo style loungers built for two. The area overlooks the ocean, with the loungers pointed right to the Atlantic. This was truly one of the most beautiful places I have ever laid out in. If you fancy a bit of adventure, the diving school Atlantik Puerto de la Cruz is a partner in

the resort and offers a range of courses and taster courses in the hotel pool. At the heart of the resort is its focus on wellness and relaxation. The resort offers a wide range of face and body rituals, including facials, massages, full body de stress treatments, foot therapy, eye treatments and plenty more. If you think you are relaxed by the pool on a normal holiday, after a massage here, you will melt into your lounger. Let’s talk food. Brimming with food options, you

certainly won’t be stuck if you don’t plan on leaving for dinner elsewhere. They run a buffet style breakfast and dinner, as well as a lunch time pool side menu, all leaning towards the sort of Canarian fusion type of food. Think paella, fish, pasta and burgers for dinner, along with salads and deserts galore. For breakfast they have it all, fresh omelettes, eggs, meats, fruits, juice and coffee, you will be well set up for the day. There are restaurants in the nearby city,

but honestly, the diversity the hotel has will keep you sorted. Precise Resort Tenerife could keep you occupied for the entirety of your trip if that is your inclination, but for anyone wanting a little stroll, the resort sits just a 15 minute taxi from one of the most beautiful towns I have ever seen, La Orotava. The colourful town is packed with history, and also sits nestled beside the Teide volcano with a gorgeous old town full of historic buildings, pubs, gardens and more.

It truly is spectacular and a must visit for anyone who enjoys a bit of a historic city break. The resort also sits a short walk (maybe about 20 minutes) from the city of Puerto De La Cruz, and that walk is well worth it. Along the way you can stop off at the Playa Jardín, made up of three incredible black sand beaches. Away from the beaches, swimming in the sea can be a bit dodgy, the city sits right on the Atlantic with

powerful waves hitting against the rocks, while this is a great spot for a surf or a dive if you are experienced, it isn’t the best for a dip to cool down. For holidaymakers hoping for a relaxing dip without getting in the sea, the Costa Martiánez Municipal Tourist Complex is just the place. The 10,000 square metre open-air swimming pool complex, with an artificial lake, gardens, bars and restaurants, is the ideal spot for swimming, or even to spend the day. Whether you are

planning a relaxing resort style getaway with the family, or a historic city break with your partner, Precise Resort Tenerife has you covered in every sense. Precise Resort Tenerife You are spoiled for choice with rooms in the resort. You can choose an ocean view room, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, or a mountain view room, with stunning views of the nearby Orotava Valley. If you are headed with a family you can also book a suite instead, with a bit more space for the group.

A mountain view room clocks in at around €99 a night, while an ocean view room hits in at around €117 a night. Prices for an ocean view suite start at €189, while prices for a mountain view suite start at €169. You can book now here . Getting there You can jet to Tenerife South Airport from pretty much every Irish airport. Ryanair offers flights from Dublin Airport, Shannon Airport and Cork Airport, while Aer Lingus offers flights from Dublin Airport and Cork Airport.

You can jet out of Dublin Airport everyday, but other airports only offer a few services a week. Prices vary depending on the time of year and how soon you booked the tickets, but you should be able to snap up seats over and back for less than €150 altogether. It is a long enough flight, at four hours and 30 minutes, but absolutely worth the travel time. Head to Ryanair.com or Aerlingus.com for more flight information. Airport arrival Puerto De La Cruz is around

an hour from Tenerife South Airport, while there is an airport in the north of the island closer to the city, this hub mainly serves Spain and the other Canary Islands. You can get to the north very easily via taxi, or public transport. A taxi is quicker, but more costly, while the bus will set you back around €13, and is around an hour and a half. The journey is actually beautiful and brings you all along the coast, think of it like a

tour of the island rather than some more travelling after a long flight. Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest news from the Irish Mirror direct to your inbox: Sign up here .
