Power: Legacy returns Tommy and Tariq to New York

Starz has ordered Power: Legacy to series, bringing Joseph Sikora back as Tommy Egan and Michael Rainey Jr. back as Tariq St. Patrick. Set in the present after Power Book IV: Force, the continuation puts Tommy back in New York as Tariq asks for his help—while
The moment Tariq tells his uncle Tommy that he could use his help in New York, the offer lands like a familiar temptation—because Tommy’s past didn’t stay put, and neither did Tariq’s new life.
Starz has ordered Power: Legacy to series with franchise stars Joseph Sikora and Michael Rainey Jr. returning as their original characters, Tommy Egan and Tariq St. Patrick. Gary Lennon will showrun and executive produce the new series. His most recent run as showrunner ended with Power Book IV: Force.
Power: Legacy is a continuation series set in the present timeline following the events of the Power Book IV: Force finale. In that finale, Tommy and Tariq reunite and save the day. The new series picks up with Tariq looking at New York—and at Tommy—to see what’s missing.
The official logline is direct: Tommy returns to New York, where he partners with Tariq to take the city by storm.
But the question hanging over the reunion is personal, and it’s clear in the details. Tariq has already cleaned house in the Windy City and established himself as the top dog of the criminal underworld—while also building a growing family. Now, he’s weighing whether Tommy’s old world can—and should—follow him.
Tommy’s love life adds another layer of urgency. His pregnant girlfriend, Mireya (played by Carmela Zumbado), left Chicago to seek safety while Tommy handled his business. The show has not revealed where she went, though Tommy believes she went to Mexico to seek refuge with family. Fans have offered a popular answer: that Mireya went to New York. perhaps to be with Tommy’s mother. Kate (Patricia Kalember).
Starz and Lionsgate Television will produce Power: Legacy together under a co-production model. The deal is also part of a wider business shift for Starz: unlike previous Power series. which were licensed. this structure allows Starz to participate fully in ancillary and downstream revenue opportunities generated by the newest installment of Power.
The timing feels intentional, and the executives sound like they’re aiming for more than just nostalgia. “Power never dies, and this chapter is our biggest yet,” Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson said. “Fans have been waiting to see Tariq and Tommy together, and now they’re taking over New York City. Bringing Joseph and Michael back together is special; they’ve turned these characters into true icons of the ‘Power’ universe.”.
Lennon—who previously served as executive producer of the original Power series—said he was “thrilled to reunite with Starz” and added that he’s “especially proud to be entrusted with continuing Tommy and Tariq’s story as showrunner on Power: Legacy.” He called it “going to be electrifying to see if these two men can share the city. the game. and the intoxicating drug known as POWER.”.
The franchise that Power: Legacy is built on stretches far beyond the original show. Joseph Sikora and Michael Rainey Jr. originated their roles in the OG Power series more than a decade ago and later led their own successful spin-offs—Power Book II: Ghost and Power Book IV: Force, respectively.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan, the first prequel series, returns with its fifth and final season on June 12th. And Power: Origins is currently shooting its first season in New York; it will pick up after the events of the Raising Kanan finale. In that series, Mekai Curtis will reprise the titular role opposite newcomers Spence Moore II as young James “Ghost” St. Patrick and Charlie Mann as Young Tommy.
On the new series’ production side. Starz says Lennon will serve as showrunner and executive producer based on a pilot script co-written by Lennon and Kendra Chapman Davis (Power Book IV: Force. Designated Survivor). The “Power” Universe series is executive-produced by creator and original Power showrunner Courtney A. Kemp through her production company. End of Episode; Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson through G-Unit Film and Television; and Mark Canton through Canton Entertainment. Kendra Chapman Davis, Sikora, and Chris Selak are also executive producers, and Rainey Jr. serves as producer.
Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming at Starz, framed the order as both a creative and cultural decision. “The fans have spoken, and we listened,” she said. “Power doesn’t die. it evolves with its audience. and for over a decade. the ‘Power’ Universe has remained at the forefront of culture. We’re thrilled to reunite Joseph and Michael to deliver a new chapter that fuses the franchise’s iconic legacy with bold. boundary-pushing storytelling.”.
Starz also pointed to the performance of Power Book IV: Force. It says the third and final season delivered “record-setting in-season growth of 57%. ” and that “the Season 3 premiere has attracted 9 million multiplatform viewers.” Across all of its series. Starz says the franchise has accumulated more than 2 billion hours viewed globally.
Now all that attention is turning toward the core question Power: Legacy is built to answer: with Tariq established, family growing, and Chicago behind him, will the return of Tommy to New York bring the kind of help that saves a city—or the kind of past that won’t let it breathe.
