Chicago police are alerting the public to recent strong-arm robberies and thefts from vehicles in the Portage Park and Irving Park neighborhoods.
Police believe the alleged thieves, which were reported from late July through Wednesday morning.
targeted people at banks and gas stations, typically during daytime hours, according to an alert.
In some instances, police said the assailants have entered occupied vehicles and taken items. During some thefts, the alleged perpetrators wait until the car is empty, steal money or other items, and flee to a car waiting nearby.
Police said during these robberies, the alleged offenders have not spoken to the victims or displayed weapons.
The thefts reported so far include the following locations:
- 6400 block of West Irving Park Road on July 23 at 1:05 p.m.
- 3200 block of West Irving Park Road on July 27 at 12:23 p.m.
- 4400 block of North Central Avenue on Aug. 5 at 12:43 p.m.
- 3200 block of West Irving Park Road on Aug. 11 at 10:48 a.m.
- 5200 block of North Cicero Avenue on Aug. 16 at 5:05 p.m.
- 3900 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue on Aug. 18 at 10:57 a.m.
- 4600 block of West Irving Park Road on Aug. 31 at 1:30 p.m.
- 5600 block of West Montrose Avenue on Sept. 2 at 11:43 a.m.
Police described the suspects as two men dressed in black and wearing black face masks.
The vehicles being used by the alleged assailants include a black Nissan Rogue, a black Lincoln SUV, and a black Porsche Macan, police said.
Residents are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity immediately, police said.
