Police identify man killed in South Station stabbing, suspect still at large

Local News

Latavius Owens, 29, of Memphis, Tennessee, was fatally stabbed inside the MBTA’s South Station last week.

Boston police have publicly identified the man who was fatally stabbed in South Station during the evening rush hour on Wednesday.

Around 5:33 p.m. on Aug. 12, Transit Police responded to a report of a person stabbed inside the station, police said.

Officers found Latavius Owens, 29, of Memphis, Tennessee, suffering from an apparent stab wound.

The preliminary investigation indicated that the victim and the suspect, who is still at large, engaged in an altercation on the escalator leading to the exit, police said.

Owens was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Owens was a father of five, according to a GoFundMe page to support his family. The fundraiser has raised $1,150 on the way to its goal of $4,500 to pay for the transportation of his body back to Tennessee.

“Right now, Latavius is still far from home, and his family wants to bring him back to Memphis as soon as possible so he can be with his loved ones,” the fundraising page said.

The investigation into the stabbing remains ongoing. Anyone with information should contact the Boston Police Homicide Unit 617-343-4470, police said.
