‘Please remove this Masshole’: Jimmy Kimmel tosses Matt Damon from show after cheering for the Red Sox – The Boston Globe

As the Red Sox prepare to face the Yankees in a wild card postseason matchup this week, famous fan Matt Damon brought a bit of the Boston vs. New York sports rivalry to late-night TV.

Although he’s considered a persona non grata on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” thanks to his years-long faux feud with the comedian, the Cambridge native made a surprise appearance during Monday’s episode, sitting in the crowd during Kimmel’s first of a string of shows taping in the Big Apple this week (the show usually films in Los Angeles).

Donning a Red Sox hat, Damon made his presence known as Kimmel started talking about the upcoming game between the Red Sox and the Yankees. The Oscar-winning star popped out of his seat to scream “Go Sox!,” with the crowd initially erupting into cheers when the camera focused on Damon, but quickly turning to jeers, to the delight of Kimmel.

“That’s what I want to hear,” Kimmel said, basking in the boos of Damon before poking fun at the actor. “You, the loser in the Red Sox cap, what is your name?”

“You know my name,” Damon responded.

“I have no idea what your name is, and honestly, I don’t care because it’s time for the ceremonial throwing out of the first Red Sox fan,” Kimmel quipped back. “Please remove this Masshole from the theater.”

Damon told the host that he wasn’t even trying to get on the show this time (the actor previously tried to sneak on the show in a mini Trojan horse over the summer), explaining that he was just at the Brooklyn taping of “Kimmel” with family.

“Wait, what family are you here with?” Kimmel asked while beckoning security to take Damon away.

“I’m here with your mom,” Damon replied as he helped Kimmel’s actual mother, Joan, out of her seat. Damon then revealed that he was sitting with Kimmel’s sister, Jill, too.

“My mother and my sister? Get him out of here right now!,” Kimmel exclaimed as security whisked Damon and the Kimmel family out of the theater, with the actor getting in one more “Let’s go Sox!” before exiting.
