PlayStation 6 Handheld for $600 Seems Impossible

There have been a number of leaks about the upcoming PlayStation 6 handheld, including purported details about the Canis APU slated to arrive in the handheld with Zen 6 LP cores. Despite this, we still haven’t seen any real indication of a price for the new handheld, even though there are already BOM estimates floating around for the PS6 living room console.

According to ubiquitous hardware leaker, KeplerL2 on the NeoGAF forums, however, it seems as though a $600 PlayStation 6 Portable is off the cards. In response to a recent question about the price of the PS6 Portable’s price, the leaker stated that a $600 handheld “is definitely not possible right now,” thanks to LPDDR memory price increases attributed to demand from data centers.

The memory and storage crises have already pushed the prices of powerful PC gaming handhelds well north of $1,000, with even Valve’s aging Steam Deck feeling the pinch resulting in a price increase that saw the base model climb to $789.
