Letters June 6, 2026: Danielle Smith, Carney, and Alberta’s future

KEITH HAMILTON, B.C. (Albertans who want to separate seem to think we hold all the cards, but maybe we don’t) Congrats public servants It is so “nice” to see that public servants get double digit pay increases. Good for them. After all, look at the “great” job they do, right? On a bitter note, the people who are footing the bill for these salaries also got increases. More increased taxes. (It is a little frustrating) Just a dream I’m taken aback that someone as politically
astute as Premier Smith has been so easily beguiled by PM Carney. Danielle Smith has been played and played quite well by Mark Carney. There’s never going to be a pipeline and why the Premier is lying to herself that her unreliable ‘boyfriend’ will come through – is puzzling. Mark Carney’s lust for power and profits will give more weight to the areas of the country that oppose pipelines, notably certain parts of Quebec and British Columbia. It is time for Danielle Smith to look
inside herself and realise that a pipeline to the west coast with Net Zero Carney is a pipedream. JEFFREY ANDERSON (it may never happen, but we can all hold onto a little hope, right?)

So basically Alberta is gonna get stuck paying more taxes again, awesome.
I didn’t even know they were doing double digit pay increases for public servants, that’s wild. And the pipeline thing—why are we even arguing about it if it’s not happening anyway.
Danielle Smith got played by Carney… okay but wasn’t Smith the one who supposedly said pipelines are still on the table? Feels like everyone’s just lying to themselves. Also “Net Zero Carney” sounds like some made-up nickname from Twitter, but maybe that’s real? Idk. Either way, the taxes part is the part that matters to me.
These letters always go on about separation like it’s a chess move, but it’s not. If there’s no pipeline, then why talk about Quebec and BC like they’re the boss? I heard somewhere the pipeline is already approved, so maybe this whole “pipedream” thing is exaggerated. And public servants getting raises doesn’t surprise me, government gonna government.
