As the performance unfolded, Harris asked what Pink was doing. Pink answered in a way that made the intent feel personal, not just theatrical. “I want to show how much I love theater, even though I haven’t been on Broadway. I’m concerned that people will be like. ‘Why is Pink hosting the Tonys?’ I want to show them how thrilled I am to be here!”.

Then the show leaned into the kind of stagecraft that turns audience attention into a chorus. After musical nods including a Phantom of the Opera and On My Own sequence. plus an Elphaba riff. Pink launched into her version of “Lady Marmalade. ” with lyrics encouraging her to be a “leading Lady Marmalade.”.
