Piers Morgan quips after Arsenal pitch-row erupts

Piers Morgan and his sons were pictured on the pitch at Selhurst Park after Arsenal lifted the Premier League trophy following a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace. His joke response to criticism over celebrity access to the pitch also reignited attention on Morgan’s

Piers Morgan didn’t just watch Arsenal’s Premier League title celebration on Sunday — he was on the pitch with his sons, posing with the moment alongside a stream of Arsenal stars after the Gunners lifted the trophy at Selhurst Park.

The row followed just as quickly as the celebrations. Fans questioned how Morgan, who has been one of Arsenal’s most outspoken supporters, was able to enter the pitch after the Gunners secured the title by beating Crystal Palace 2-1 on the final day of the season.

Arsenal were presented with the trophy after that win, and the club’s championship was confirmed earlier in the week when Man City failed to beat Bournemouth. It marked Arsenal’s first Premier League title in 22 years.

Morgan was among several well-known supporters to make their way onto the pitch. where he was seen with Bertie. Stanley and Spencer. Alongside him in the stands before the final whistle had been EastEnders star Jake Wood and comedian Jack Whitehall. while Line of Duty actor Adrian Dunbar was also spotted with Morgan prior to the end.

Once photos of Morgan celebrating began circulating, criticism focused on the fact he has previously attacked manager Mikel Arteta — including a call for him to be sacked in 2022.

One fan responded to a picture of Morgan celebrating with Declan Rice by writing: “Why was Piers Morgan & his clan on the pitch at Selhurst? Nowt worse than celebrity fans muscling in on things. Especially one who called for Arteta’s head on several occasions in the early years.”

Morgan replied: “Maybe because I had the foresight to buy 4 tickets at the start of March when I had a feeling it might be a momentous day for the club I’ve supported for 55 years. As for Arteta, he proved me and a lot of people wrong, and I couldn’t be happier about it.”

Another fan challenged the access itself, asking how tickets had allowed Morgan and his family onto the pitch. The broadcaster responded: “I didn’t pay for Declan to run over and put his winner’s medal around my neck for a souvenir pic, that’s true. But I was thrilled that he did.”

The banter kept coming. After one fan wrote: “All the away fans were allowed on the pitch for photos with the players? Wow!” Morgan added: “Only the good-looking ones.”

During the celebrations, Morgan also insisted Rice had run over to him and placed his winner’s medal around his neck for a souvenir photo. Morgan later shared more images from the day, with himself and his sons pictured with Arsenal stars and with Arteta on the pitch.

Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Viktor Gyokeres and captain Martin Odegaard were among those seen posing with Morgan. Morgan also wrote “Super Mik Arteta. The man who brought the glory back to Arsenal after 22 long and often tortuous years. ” after posting a picture of him and his sons with Arteta on the pitch.

“What an honour to see him with my sons on the day we were crowned Champions. Thanks Mikel Arteta.” Morgan later added.

After the on-pitch scenes, Morgan was seen sharing a celebratory drink with Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke as the club continued to toast the long-awaited success.

Some Arsenal fans made the comparison themselves, unfavourably likening Morgan to celebrity chef Salt Bae — who famously gained access to Argentina’s celebrations after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where he kissed the trophy.

With the Premier League title secured, Arsenal’s focus now turns to Europe. The club finished seven points clear of Man City, and they will aim for Champions League success for the first time.

Arsenal face reigning champions PSG in the final in Budapest on Saturday. Morgan said he was “very very confident” Arsenal would claim European glory.
