Oscar Piastri has dismissed fresh claims that he could be involved in a driver “swap” with Max Verstappen, insisting he has not had any discussions. The comments come as Motorsport grid attention turns to the Canadian Grand Prix, with Piastri currently tied to

Oscar Piastri didn’t let the talk linger.

At a press conference ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix. the 25-year-old Melbourne-born McLaren driver responded to claims linking him to a potential swap with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. “It is news to me. there’s obviously not been any discussions or anything. ” Piastri told media. adding: “It’s flattering. yes. but there’s not really much more than that. really.”.

The timing of those words lands right in the middle of a season where rumours have followed Verstappen’s name and Piastri’s name in equal measure. Piastri has been linked with a move to Red Bull. and Verstappen with a link to Piastri’s current team. McLaren. Motorsport.com reported earlier this month that both Red Bull and McLaren were considering a swap between the two drivers.

Those links aren’t the only ones that have floated around. Verstappen has also been connected to moves to McLaren and Ferrari, and even to the idea of retiring from the sport completely.

For Piastri, the response didn’t just deny the idea—it effectively narrowed the room for it. He said he hadn’t been in discussions, and he emphasized contentment with his current situation.

That matters because Piastri’s contractual position has been clear. The Australian is currently contracted to McLaren until the end of 2028. He has already delivered nine wins for the team, and he has played a major role in McLaren’s back-to-back constructors titles.

As all 22 drivers on the F1 grid return to action this weekend, the wider championship picture adds extra heat to every off-track storyline. Italian teenager Kimi Antonelli leads the World Drivers Championship, with Mercedes on top in the constructors championship.

Piastri’s stance leaves one question largely answered: whatever the rumours may look like from the outside, he says he’s not being pulled into talks. The next step will be simple—show up, race, and let the season’s results do the talking again at the Canadian Grand Prix.
