Phillies’ Alec Bohm goes from hated to hero in win over Marlins

Alec Bohm has emerged as a beloved member of the Phillies team after catching fire from the plate following a slow start in 2026.

There were plenty of concerns surrounding the Philadelphia Phillies after they had to shuffle around their defensive setup after trading for Luis Arraez at the trade deadline. But the Phillies have been surging, and their offense has come to life — more than making up for whatever they lost on defense (they have gone 12-5 in August). Alec Bohm, in particular, has been a new man in the month of August.

Bohm, who moved to first base following Bryce Harper’s return to the outfield, has caught on fire since the start of the month. He had an OPS of .647 on the season prior to the start of August. But since the first of the new month, Bohm has put up an OPS of .951, and he keeps on finding ways to drive in runs for the Phillies, as he has 12 runs batted in in 17 games this month — including the two runs he drove in on Tuesday in a 6-4 win over the Miami Marlins.

Suffice to say, Bohm has emerged as an invaluable piece once more for the Phillies. Fans have been growing tired of his underproduction, but he is turning it on at the right time for a Phillies team that is looking to strengthen its hold on a Wild Card spot.

For Bohm, he wishes he could have started hitting this well earlier in the year. But in such a long regular season grind, it is certainly better late than never for the Phillies’ first baseman.

“It’s a crazy game. Obviously, I would have liked to feel great all year long and do it in April, but it’s a crazy game. Just some random little thing can kind of click or whatever,” Bohm said, per Lochlahn March of Inquirer.

Baseball can indeed be a fickle game. Bohm has been a target of criticism for Phillies fans throughout 2026, but he is silencing his doubters, one hit and one RBI at a time.
