Crow-Armstrong’s July-ready June breaks MLB’s long record

Pete Crow-Armstrong recently achieved a feat that no man had ever accomplished in Major League Baseball’s 120-plus-year history. The Chicago Cubs star centerfielder recorded 34 hits, five doubles, two triples, nine home runs and six stolen bases over his past 18 games entering Saturday’s matchup with the Toronto Blue Jays, which is the first time ever that a player has had that many hits, doubles, triples, homers and steals over any 18-game stretch in MLB history. According to OptaSTATS, there have been over five million
18-game spans recorded by players in the league’s modern era. Still, Crow-Armstrong stands alone. Armstrong currently leads the Cubs with 83 hits and a batting average of .286, which would be the best mark of his career. The 2025 All-Star’s 4.6 WAR also leads the team and hit for the cycle for the first time in his career on June 15 during a 5-4 win over the Colorado Rockies. It was the 13th cycle in Cubs history. “I’m very grateful,” said Crow-Armstrong after his incredible
individual effort against the Rockies. Crow-Armstrong’s success at the plate has helped the Cubs remain in the hunt for a divisional title, as Chicago currently trails the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers, by 6.5 games. “I’m just so lucky to be on a team that continues to find a way,” Crow-Armstrong added after their walk-off triumph against Colorado. One of the catalysts for Crow-Armstrong this season has been a switch to the leadoff spot, which occurred on May 23. According to ESPN Insights, the 24-year-old has
an OPS of 1.182 since the lineup change, which is the best in Major League Baseball since that date. On Saturday, Crow-Armstrong didn’t show any signs of slowing down, hitting his 10th home run in his past 19 games to extend his recent streak of red-hot play. If he continues at this pace, he could force himself into the MVP conversation by season’s end. Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani is currently a -1600 favorite to win the award, while Crow-Armstrong’s current odds are 70-1,
per ESPN.
