For Peoria Unified School District, the investigation into Haley Beck and Angela Burlaka has moved from internal reviews to a formal warrant with a clear deadline.

The timeline of the case runs through the spring. The district told readers it has been responding to requests tied to the investigation. On May 13, the Peoria Police Department submitted multiple public records requests related to Haley Beck and Angela Burlaka. That same day, the district acknowledged receipt and began reviewing and responding.
Before the warrant was served. district representatives met with the Peoria Police Department on Tuesday to reaffirm the district’s commitment to responding “lawfully and appropriately” to requests connected to the investigation. During that meeting, the district said certain requests required additional legal review to ensure compliance with state and federal law.
The school staff response is rooted in actions already taken in the case. After an internal investigation, Haley Beck was fired. The accusations against her include alleged grooming behavior and a sexual relationship with a student. with investigators saying the predatory behavior began before the relationship became sexual after the student was 18.
Text messages described in the reporting include claims that Haley Beck did some of the student’s homework, allowed him to drive her car, bought him marijuana and alcohol, called herself his “sugar momma,” and offered oral sex.
A second teacher, Angela Burlaka, 47, faced a separate accusation involving the same student. Burlaka resigned after being placed on administrative leave.
As the police investigation continues, law enforcement believes there could be more students involved in grooming crimes and is working to get answers.
Peoria Unified says it is committed to helping authorities, within legal limits. The district stated that it has consistently responded to requests from law enforcement and remains committed to assisting while supporting the judicial process. It also said it is appreciative of the Peoria Police Department’s investigation and continues to await direction from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office as both entities consider evidence related to potential criminal charges.
