He singled out episode 12, the one built around a mass shooting, saying: “The whole show was amazing but episode 12?. The mass shooting?. That was a master class — acting, writing, directing, all of it.”.
Oswalt’s praise came with a small confession of obsession: “Had to watch that episode twice.”
The same feature spread across his offstage life, tastes, and the way he decompresses. He said he’s “absolutely” in the habit of reading his own reviews. calling it fueled by “an unhealthy dose of self-regard.” When he’s not watching medical drama. his perfect Saturday starts with sleep—“sleep until I wake up and then sit on my front porch drinking tea and reading”—before shifting to movies once his daughter. who he described as being “a wee one” when they visited the Butterfly Garden at the Museum of Natural History. is now a teenager.
He also keeps one foot in comedy dreams and one in personal routines. Oswalt said he would “love another season of Happy!. There’s so much more amazing story to tell there. ” and he described his sleep habits as a daily negotiation: “I’m a night owl who really wants to be a morning person. [It’s] a constant struggle.”.
The interview doesn’t stop there. Oswalt’s childhood idols included Charles Schulz, Vincent Price, and The Six Million Dollar Man. His first car was a 1985 Nissan Sentra—“Death-box with a tape player.” For reading. he named Every Anxious Wave by Mo Daviau as his favorite book. calling it “Required reading if you’re Gen X.” And for music moments. he pointed to Mazzy Star’s “Blue Light” as something that “brings back the best memories of being in my 20s in the ’90s. ” adding. “A more hopeful. less desperate time for everyone. At least that’s what it felt like.”.
He also brought names and memories to the karaoke mic. “Knock Three Times” by Tony Orlando and Dawn is his go-to song. and he loves “banging the mic stand on the ground during the ‘knock knock knock’ part. A great drunk belter.” When he wants a fast bite. his order is specific: “Three Jack in the Box tacos and an iced tea.”.
What fans will be watching for next is Oswalt’s new comedy special, Tea & Scotch, which premieres June 9 on YouTube.
In the meantime, there’s a clear through-line to what he wants people to talk about: Ratatouille. “Remy from Ratatouille is the character people most want to talk to me about. ” he said. and the topic lands right alongside everything else he’s willing to share—his dream project (a live-action adaptation of Charles Burns’ El Borbah with Guillermo del Toro). the star he’s met (Martin Scorsese). and the way he credits his own life philosophy to creating more than you consume: “Out-create them” is “the most valuable life lesson I’ve learned.”.
If nothing else, it’s a snapshot of a comedian who can argue for a scene of intense drama with the precision of someone who actually cares—and then turn around and tell you the most important legacy he wants is “my amazing scrambled eggs.”

So he “watched it twice”?? That seems kinda intense for a mass shooting episode.
I don’t get why people hype a mass shooting episode like it’s some master class. Like… what are we celebrating here? Acting and writing doesn’t make it less messed up.
Wait is The Pitt like based on a real incident? Because if it is, watching it twice is kinda crazy. Also “reading his own reviews”??? I mean, I guess comedians gotta ego check themselves but yikes.
The title alone is misleading, like it’s his favorite show but then it’s about a shooting, so I’m confused. Netflix needs to stop making everything “content” lol. Also tea on the porch sounds nice tho, like okay Patton
