Patriots WR A.J. Brown’s ‘friendly chirping’ to Christian Gonzalez a highlight of intense training camp battle

The New England Patriots are fully in the swing of things at training camp as the 2026 NFL season quickly approaches. The Patriots are on a mission to prove that last year’s trip to the Super Bowl was no fluke, and they went out and acquired AJ Brown to help bolster their wide receiver room this offseason.

Recently, Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network reported on the latest regarding Brown’s performance at training camp so far, including his matchups with star Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez.

“A.J. Brown vs. Christian Gonzalez has been worth the price of admission today. Both players trading plays, with Brown doing some friendly chirping after one catch,” reported Garafolo on X, formerly Twitter.

Brown and Gonzalez are two of the best players at their respective positions in the NFL heading into the upcoming season. Gonzalez is currently participating in training camp despite making it known that he wants a new contract extension done with the Patriots, with the two sides yet to come to terms on an agreement.

Meanwhile, Brown’s discontent with the Philadelphia Eagles ultimately reached a boiling point last season, making a trade seem inevitable heading into this summer.

While the Patriots will no longer have Stefon Diggs torching opposing defenses this year, the combination of Brown and free agent signee Romeo Doubs should be more than enough to replace, if not upend, his production, as quarterback Drake Maye looks to build off his MVP candidacy from a year ago.

Things will be tougher this time around, with the Patriots now facing a much more difficult schedule than the historically easy slate they had in 2025. However, clearly, Brown and Gonzalez are ready to bring the competitive intensity with the season still over a month away.
