The Patriots made several transactions on Tuesday as they attempt to get the roster set for next week’s season opener.
They signed center Ben Brown to the 53-man roster. Brown was released earlier this week after being named to the initial roster. He had been one of the Patriots’ top reserves on the offensive line during training camp.
He missed a significant amount of time after being injured in the preseason and could end up missing more time.
Brown played in all 17 games last year and made four starts. He primarily plays center, but has experience filling in at guard.
The Patriots signed undrafted rookie linebacker Erick Hunter to the 53-man roster. The 6-foot-2, 224-pound linebacker starred at Morgan State last year, earning FCS All-American honors. He spent training camp with the Lions before being released.
The Patriots also added five players to the practice squad: linebacker K.J. Britt, who was with the Patriots in camp this summer, and defensive tackle Jalen Hunt, offensive lineman Jake Kubas, and linebacker Jose Ramirez, who are newcomers.
The Patriots named team captains on Wednesday. Drake Maye, Marcus Jones, Morgan Moses, Robert Spillane, Hunter Henry, and Kevin Byard were selected as captains by a vote from their teammates.
