Packers part ways with 2 players after signing wide receiver

The Green Bay Packers have been pretty active in tinkering with the lineup as they continue their training camp at Ray Nitschke Field. The Packers will release their 53-man roster at the end of the month, and the front office is leaving no stone unturned in finding the optimal mix of players.

On Sunday, it was announced that Green Bay signed wide receiver Kisean Johnson in free agency, as reported by Pro Football Talk’s Josh Alper. Johnson went undrafted in 2024 after a one-and-done stint at Western Kentucky. Last season, he was picked up by the Cleveland Browns before ending up on the practice squad of the Packers.

Green Bay released him before the offseason, but he was given a workout over the weekend, leading to his signing.

After adding Johnson, the Packers released safety Johnathan Baldwin and cornerback Marlon Jones.

“Baldwin played in one game for Green Bay last season, and Jones signed with the team after going undrafted this year. Both players will revert to injured reserve if they are unclaimed,” wrote Alper.

Baldwin, who played four seasons at UNLV, was also undrafted in 2025. Jones suited up at Eastern Washington for five years. He sat out 2024 due to lymphoma before transferring to Vanderbilt last year.

Johnson, meanwhile, tallied 76 receptions for 931 yards and seven touchdowns at Western Kentucky. He played for Alabama State, where he was named an All-SWAC and an All-American, for four years before transferring to the Hilltoppers.

He will have an uphill climb in trying to make it to the final lineup, as the Packers already have wide receivers Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, Savion Williams, Skyy Moore, and Bo Melton ahead of him in the depth chart.

The Packers will open their preseason schedule on Thursday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
