Packers get trolled by united Chicago fans in Cubs-White Sox game

Cubs and White Sox fans take a break from their rivalry and rip apart the Packers during Tuesday’s Chicago face-off

Nothing unites a divided city quite like ABBA and mutual hatred for a rival franchise. While Tuesday’s memorable battle between the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox was on pause due to a rain delay, fans inside Wrigley Field engaged in the “tarps off” craze as “Dancing Queen” blared through the stadium’s speakers. Then, as if it was a Pavlovian response, they broke  out “Green Bay sucks” chants, via Josh Frydman of WGN TV News and GNSportsTV.

Whether one lives on the North Side or South Side, they probably detest the Green Bay Packers and anyone who wears cheese on their head. When the action stops and restlessness takes over, a little trolling can allow people to release their frustrations. The two factions resumed their conflict once the tarp came off the field and the game picked up where it left off, but while rain filled The Friendly Confines, they were willing allies with a common enemy.

If only the individuals who got into Monday’s ugly brawl thought to do the same thing. The jail cells would have probably been a little lighter.

The Packers and Chicago Bears comprise one of the NFL’s most heated rivalries. These historic franchises penned a gripping chapter in their shared story last season, as quarterback Caleb Williams and new head Ben Johnson helped the previously floundering squad finally gain the upper hand over Green Bay.

Chicago snatched victory away from its NFC North foe twice in the span of a month, with a mind-boggling 31-27 comeback win in the Wild Card Round serving as the defining memory of the Bears’ campaign. They are hoping to build on their divisional glory and topple the Green and Gold once again. If Johnson’s guys are looking for added inspiration, the surging Cubs (74-53) and scrappy White Sox (65-60) should be able to provide it.

Though, ironically, their fans just gave the Packers even more motivation. Green Bay will have the opportunity to unleash an avalanche of despair on The Windy City when the Bears enter Lambeau Field on Oct. 11.
