Oscar Onley ruled out of Tour de France with shoulder injury

British rider Oscar Onley, who finished fourth at last year’s Tour de France, has been ruled out of this year’s race due to a significant shoulder injury after a crash during the Tour Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes.
PARIS — British rider Oscar Onley won’t line up for this year’s Tour de France.
The Netcompany Ineos team announced Thursday that “further medical investigations have confirmed a significant shoulder injury,” ruling him out of the race. Onley, who finished fourth at last year’s Tour de France, was injured after a crash this month during the Tour Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes.
It remains unclear when Onley, who has started rehabilitation, will be able to return to racing.
In a statement, Onley said, “I’m gutted not to be able to line up for the Tour de France.” He added that his focus is now on recovering and getting his shoulder “in a good place,” while saying he is “really motivated to try and make something out of this season.”
The Tour begins July 4.
