By the time Tuesday night arrives in Tampa Bay, the Orioles’ bullpen plans will look a little different.

Baltimore announced three roster moves before its game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The club selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Albert Suarez from Triple-A. Right-handed pitcher Cameron Foster was optioned to Triple-A, and catcher Maverick Handley was designated for assignment.

The timing matters because it follows quickly on Baltimore’s most recent waiver claim. A day earlier, the Orioles claimed outfielder Michael Siani off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Suarez’s path back to the majors is the centerpiece of the moves. At 36, he has been a reliable big-league presence in recent seasons. In 2024, Suarez posted a 3.70 ERA across 32 outings, with 24 starts. This year with the Orioles, he made only five appearances, but still recorded a 2.31 ERA. Through six MLB appearances in 2026, Suarez has a 3.45 ERA.

Foster’s demotion shows the other side of the roster shakeup. Before being optioned on Tuesday, the right-hander posted a 9.00 ERA across six outings with Baltimore.

Handley’s status is the sharpest cut. He has played in just one MLB game in 2026. Still, his minor-league production has been strong enough to keep him relevant in the organization: he hit .333/.458/.444 in six minor league games, with five at Double-A and one at Triple-A.

Baltimore is hoping to compete in 2026. but the start has been underwhelming. and injury trouble has added strain to the season. With that in mind. the Orioles’ decision to add Suarez and adjust the pitching and catcher depth is framed as a practical response—especially after a painful opening game of the series.

Monday’s matchup didn’t go Baltimore’s way, with the Orioles falling 16-6 to the Rays in the first contest of the series. Tuesday’s game is the rebound chance.

First pitch for the Orioles and Rays on Tuesday night is scheduled for 6:40 PM EST in Tampa Bay.

  1. So they add Suarez and then send Foster down? I mean if he’s got a 9.00 then yeah but 16-6 sounds like more than just one bad arm. Still, Handley getting DFA feels wild for a guy who barely played.

  2. Wait I thought Suarez was already on the Dodgers?? Or maybe that was some other Suarez… They keep saying roster moves but it’s just a shuffle. And “designated for assignment” sounds like they’re just tossing him into the trash??

  3. 16-6 loss and then a bunch of moves in one day, okay. I don’t even know who Maverick Handley is but apparently he hit .333 in minors so that’s something. Also Cameron Foster optioned with a 9.00 ERA, cool cool, but what about the hitting?? Orioles always pitching changes like that fixes everything. Plus 6:40 PM, I’ll probably forget and just watch highlights.
