One month down. Two months and week to go in what is already a wild college football season.
We’ve seen teams we thought were College Football Playoff locks fall by the wayside. We’ve seen the rise of contenders that were afterthoughts in the preseason. With seven games matching ranked opponents in Week 4, the postseason picture was sure to get altered entering October.
So it’s unsurprising that there are three new teams in the projected playoff field in this week’s bowl projections. Oregon moves back in after its impressive road defeat of Southern California despite the scary injury to quarterback Dante Moore. Florida has gone from dark horse to the thick of the SEC race with a dominating effort against Mississippi. And Utah slides into a spot with its impressive start.
Who fell out? We’ll start with Penn State, which blew a 17-point lead at home against Wisconsin after allowing two late touchdowns. The loss by Ole Miss wasn’t devastating to its hopes but further exposed concerns about the defense. And it was a tough day for Louisville on Saturday. One week following a defeat of SMU, the Cardinals fell to Wake Forest at home.
