OnePlus leak points to a mini OLED Android tablet

OnePlus compact – A new leak claims OnePlus is working on a global compact tablet aimed at the iPad mini space, featuring an 8.8-inch OLED display with 144Hz refresh and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 power—plus LPDDR5X, UFS 4.1, an 8,000mAh battery, and 67W charging.

When compact Android tablets don’t deliver, it usually shows up in the specs. Smaller screens are easy to find—but serious performance in a mini-sized device typically comes from gaming brands, not the mainstream players people actually shop for.

That’s why a fresh leak tied to OnePlus feels like more than a routine rumor. Tipster Abhishek Yadav says OnePlus is developing a compact tablet for global markets with an 8.8-inch OLED display and a 144Hz refresh rate. The same source claims the device would run on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. Power would come from an 8,000mAh battery with 67W charging.

If that happens, it would be a sharp pivot from what OnePlus already sells as its flagship tablet. The OnePlus Pad 4 is described around a 13.2-inch IPS LCD screen and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. which is the opposite of the “smaller. serious performance” idea this rumored model seems to chase. The leak’s direction points straight toward the iPad mini category—where the whole point is staying compact without feeling underpowered.

Apple’s current approach also sets the stage for why this OLED rumor matters. The smallest iPad is still listed as using an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina LCD display with IPS technology, while OLED remains limited to the iPad Pro lineup, including the 2024 M4 model and the 2025 M5 version.

Android does have powerful compact tablets, but the serious options have mostly been gaming-focused. Lenovo’s Legion Tab Gen 5 is said to pair an 8.8-inch LCD display with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. while Red Magic’s Astra is tipped with a 9.06-inch OLED panel and Snapdragon 8 Elite. Neither is positioned as a mainstream iPad mini rival, which is where the leak suggests OnePlus could step in.

The hardware lineup also lines up closely with a China-exclusive device: Oppo Pad Mini. That raises a practical question—how “new” the product really is. The rumored OnePlus version may not be entirely new. but it could still matter if it lands outside China. where competition for compact high-end Android tablets is thinner.

The leak further claims a global launch could begin in Q3 2026, with India expected to be among the first markets. Pricing is still unannounced, leaving the biggest unknown for now: whether OnePlus can make a compact OLED Android tablet feel like a mainstream choice rather than a niche upgrade.

  1. If they’re putting Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 in a mini tablet then why does it matter? Like my phone already does everything. Also 144Hz on a tablet sounds kinda useless unless you’re gaming all day.

  2. Wait so is this just the Oppo Pad Mini wearing a OnePlus hat? I saw something about it being China exclusive and then “global” later. Feels like marketing more than a new device, but I guess if they bring it to India then whatever.

  3. I don’t trust leaks. OnePlus already has that big tablet with the IPS screen and different chip, so this sounds like they’re chasing Apple for no reason. iPad mini already exists, but apparently OLED only on Pro models… so if this is really OLED, then cool? Or it’ll be overpriced like everything else. Q3 2026 is forever too, people gonna buy something else by then.
