Samsung has started rolling out stable One UI 8.5 to Galaxy S25 users in the US, adding Galaxy S26 features and an April security patch.
Samsung has finally started pushing a stable One UI 8.5 update to Galaxy S25 owners in the US, bringing a wave of Galaxy S26 features along for the ride.
The rollout began in South Korea last week, and it’s now reaching US devices as well. Tipster information indicates the update is landing under version numbers S938USQU9CZDP / S938UOYN9CZDP, with a large download size of 4408.31 MB. The package also includes the April security patch.
Samsung’s move matters because One UI 8.5 doesn’t just look and feel different. It also expands access to capabilities that were previously treated as Galaxy S26 exclusives—an approach that can significantly change how quickly newer AI and media tools spread across Samsung’s flagship line.
While the US rollout is the headline, the report also says the update is expected to expand to other older Galaxy phones soon. In other words, even if you’re not on a Galaxy S25, the timing suggests Samsung’s staged deployment could widen the same feature set to a broader audience.
As for eligibility, the first phase listed by Samsung covers a wide range of devices.. That includes Galaxy S25. S25 Plus. S25 Ultra. and S25 FE; Galaxy S24. S24 Plus. One UI 8.5 introduces changes across the experience, starting with a refreshed visual design.. Samsung describes a new look that blends immersive visuals with personalization. using transparent blur effects for depth and floating elements designed to respond to how you work—aiming to make navigation feel more intuitive.
The update also brings a major Galaxy AI expansion. including call and photo tools that previously weren’t part of the base Galaxy S25 package.. One feature set focuses on “Bixby Text Call. ” which lets users decide whether they want to talk. with an assistant that can handle the initial exchange by asking who’s calling and why.
Photo editing becomes more conversational with text prompts. letting users describe how an image should change—such as altering clothing colors or adding elements to an empty space.. Samsung also adds “Photo assist” improvements designed to combine images more naturally. letting you pull an object from one photo and place it into another. with Galaxy AI smoothing the result for a more realistic blend.
For creative experimentation, the changelog expands on styles and generation.. Photo assist now supports adding fun styles beyond only people or pets. and it includes an interface for reordering favorites through thumbnail touch-and-hold gestures.. There’s also “continuous image generation. ” which Samsung describes as allowing you to keep creating using Photo assist features without saving each iteration. with a history view to review and pick favorites once you’re done.
Creative Studio is another highlight, now available from the Apps screen for easier access. Samsung says users can use it to create custom wallpapers, unique stickers, and personalized profile images that can be used throughout the phone.
Galaxy AI improvements extend to lock screen and selection workflows as well.. “Now brief” is positioned as a more personalized lock screen element showing information based on context. while “Enhanced AI select” is designed to start faster with a touch-and-hold gesture on the edge handle.. There’s also a “Rewind” option to go back and precisely select content after you’ve missed something in a video.
Samsung’s Interpreter also gets an update intended to reduce interruptions in conversation. Auto language detection is described as identifying which chosen language is being spoken so you don’t need to press the microphone button each time someone talks.
Beyond Galaxy AI, Bixby gains upgrades aimed at everyday control and faster answers.. Samsung says Bixby can now find the right setting or feature even if you don’t use exact command phrasing.. It also continues to support quick responses for both short questions and deeper information. with conversation history accessible from the side panel in the Bixby app.
The camera section focuses on practical improvements for document capture, video creation, and capture efficiency.. Document scanning is described as faster and more powerful. with an automatic scan button when the camera points at a document.. Samsung also adds multi-page to single-PDF capture. plus a Remove tool intended to clean up issues like fingers. folded corners. and unwanted moiré.
For storage management, Auto motion photos are designed to record motion only when movement is detected, otherwise saving as a still image. Video tools include a dual recording option in quick controls that lets you film with both front and rear cameras simultaneously when enabled from video mode.
Creators get a preview feature for “Log” video workflows, with real-time color look guidance through cinematic LUT previews during recording. Samsung also says LUT previews are available later in Gallery and Studio, and that portrait filters are being expanded with new options.
Home and lock screen changes are also part of the update.. Samsung says the lock screen layout will automatically adjust when wallpapers feature people or pets. helping keep clocks and widgets from covering important parts of the image.. It also introduces downloadable wallpapers with interactive elements, designed to avoid storage use when they’re not active.
Weather can now be integrated into the wallpaper experience too, with weather effects added directly from the preview screen. Samsung also highlights more customizable clock fonts, including the ability to adjust thickness across additional styles.
In the Weather app, the widget is enhanced to show precipitation timing more clearly.. The changelog indicates it can display a precipitation graph when rain is expected within the next few hours.. There’s also a pollen index feature aimed at allergy planning, broken down by tree, grass, and ragweed levels.
Communication features arrive as well. including “direct voicemail. ” which allows callers to record a voice message on the phone while it’s being captured on screen so users can answer later.. There are also new call decline messages that Samsung says are personalized based on calendar events and other activity. letting you respond with a reason—such as being in a meeting or exercising—without typing.
Clock features include a “weather alarm” background, letting the alarm screen show current conditions when it rings. There’s also a time zone converter in the Clock app, presented as a slider to make global comparisons easier.
Connectivity changes focus on sharing across devices and easier audio routing.. Storage share is described as making files from other Samsung phones. tablets. and PCs accessible inside the My Files app. with support for viewing phone tiles on other Samsung devices including TVs.. Auto Hotspot is also expanded. with hotspot sharing designed to work with a Samsung account family group or a user-selected sharing group.

Quick Share upgrades also target cross-platform use.. Samsung says it now enables sharing with Apple devices using support for iPhones. iPads. Macs. and others that can handle AirDrop. while also reducing unwanted inbound sharing by allowing Quick Share to only receive files from devices signed into a Samsung or Google account.
Samsung’s photo sharing suggestions tie into Quick Share as well, with the ability to recognize people in pictures and suggest sharing directly with friends or family.
Samsung Health receives changes aimed at both reporting and sharing.. Weekly reports are described as more complete, incorporating data from a medication tracker and mindfulness sessions.. There’s also an upgraded sharing experience for workouts, letting users mix exercise stats with photos to build social posts.
Watch integration expands too. Samsung says meditations can now be started directly on Galaxy Watch without picking up the phone, and it also claims antioxidant measurements can be taken from the watch even without a phone connection, working with Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch Ultra.
Battery and power tools in One UI 8.5 are designed around clearer usage visibility and more flexible saving.. The Battery settings screen is redesigned to show remaining time, charging status, and daily usage across the past week.. Power saving is described as improved. including Standard for moderate savings with customizable limits and Maximum for turning off non-essential features for maximum endurance.
On security and privacy, Samsung adds new protections and alerting.. There are privacy alerts intended to notify users when app permissions could put personal data at risk. along with suggestions for what to do.. Accessibility features are part of the rollout too. expanding Bluetooth hearing aid controls via an accessibility shortcut that provides a pop-up to adjust hearing programs and toggle Ambient sound.. For vision support. new options let magnification follow the cursor while typing or move with keyboard focus changes. and with a mouse the magnified area can shift as the pointer approaches the edge of the screen.
Mouse-driven control is further refined by splitting a previous behavior into two. “Dwell action” lets users set custom actions when the mouse stops moving for a chosen duration, while “Corner actions” lets users define different actions for each corner of the screen.
Samsung also lists a set of additional improvements.. These include a more customizable quick panel for reordering quick settings controls; early alerts for reminders so users can choose how far in advance they receive notifications; and partial screen recording so users can select only the portion they want to capture.
Calculator becomes more proactive with “calculator nudges,” suggesting numbers and formulas copied to the clipboard when you open the Calculator app. For DeX users, Samsung says it now remembers app window sizes and positions, so reopening an app brings it back as you left it.
With One UI 8.5 now rolling out to the Galaxy S25 family in the US. Samsung appears to be accelerating feature parity across its high-end line—especially in areas like Galaxy AI. media tooling. and device sharing..
