Olivia Rodrigo pulled off an incredible feat with her inaugural Daisy Chain Fields music festival, bringing over a dozen performances to two stages and raising $20 million for women’s causes.
The Grammy-winning singer, 23, organized the all-female music festival, which took place on Saturday (August 29) at Great Park in Irvine, Calif.
Olivia headlined the festival along with special guests Sarah McLachlan and Stevie Nicks, plus surprise guest Alanis Morissette, who filled in for Karen O after the artist had to drop out at the last minute.
Olivia performed two songs with Sarah, who she credited as an inspiration for the festival after she launched Lilith Fair in the 90s. They sang “Building a Mystery” and “Angel,” the latter of which they dedicated to the late Dolly Parton.
During the show, Olivia was also joined by Alanis for a duet of “Ironic” and Stevie to close out the night with “Landslide.”
Stevie praised Olivia before walking off stage to close out the night. “She reminds me of me, when I was her age a hundred years ago,” she said. “And I’m somewhat awestruck that she could do all this. Because it’s so hard, you have no idea, putting this together with all of these people. And she’s done it, with this grace.”
Olivia confirmed at the end of the night that Daisy Chain Fields is going to return for a second year!
Other artists who performed during the all-day festival included Chappell Roan, Doechii, Garbage, Not for Radio, Mitski, The Breeders, Bikini Kill, Santigold, Die Spitz, Devon Again, Rachel Chinouriri, Eli, and Quiet Light.
KATSEYE was originally scheduled to perform but withdrew from the festival after member Megan Skiendiel sprained her ankle during a tour rehearsal.
Activations at the festival included pop-ups from brands like Taco Bell (serving their new Olivia Rodrigo Baja Blast), Salt & Straw (serving their exclusive Marigold Crown sundae with sugar cookie ice cream), Brooks, Depop, Etsy, and more.
The festival was created to bring together artists, nonprofit organizations and fans to turn the power of music and fandom into action and impact for women and girls, with 100% of net proceeds from the festival benefitting its 10 nonprofit partners.
Olivia donated $10 million to the causes from the net proceeds of the festival and philanthropist Melinda French Gates matched the donation, bringing $20 million total to the non-profits.
All net proceeds from Daisy Chain Fields will benefit the following nonprofit organizations:
- Baby2Baby has provided over half a billion essential items including diapers, formula, clothing and food to children in need across the country.
- Black Mamas Matter Alliance works to ensure Black mamas have the rights, respect, and resources to thrive before, during, and after pregnancy.
- Center for Reproductive Rightstakes the fight for reproductive rights to court, using the power of law and advocacy to defend access to care in the U.S. and around the world.
- FreeFromis the largest provider of direct cash assistance to survivors of gender-based violence and a leading advocate for survivor economic security.
- Jhpiegopartners with communities around the world to make quality health care more accessible to women, girls, and their families.
- Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health partners with Indigenous communities across the U.S. to advance health and well-being through Indigenous-led research, community-based programs, and public health leadership.
- National Domestic Workers Alliance organizes domestic workers across the U.S. to ensure the people who care for our children, elders, and homes have the rights, protections, and dignity they deserve.
- National Institute for Reproductive Healthfights for reproductive freedom nationally by working alongside state and local partners to expand abortion access, protect reproductive health data, and ensure Black and Indigenous pregnant people can have a safe, joyful birthing experience.
- National Women’s Law Center fights for gender justice nationwide in the court system, in public policy, and in the culture at large is the largest provider of direct cash assistance to survivors of gender-based violence and a leading advocate for survivor economic security.
- Planned Parenthood organizations have more than 550 health centers in communities nationwide and provide millions of people with access to sexual and reproductive health care, including birth control, cancer screenings, abortion, and more.
