Last night at Primavera Sound Barcelona, the audience was already in the rhythm of The Cure’s orbit when Olivia Rodrigo stepped into the moment—bringing out Robert Smith for a duet with the band’s frontman and turning a surprise set into something more intimate.

Rodrigo. who came out to perform “What’s Wrong With Me” for the first time. told the crowd that the track carries personal weight. “This song is special to me for so many reasons. but primarily because it’s my first song I’ve ever done a feature on. which is really exciting. ” she said before the debut. “I can’t believe that this song exists with the person it exists with. and I’m just so fucking over the moon.”.

The duet, “What’s Wrong With Me,” is Rodrigo’s first original collaboration with Smith. It also caps a long build-up of public admiration: Rodrigo had previously described Smith as a “personal hero of mine” before bringing him out to perform “Just Like Heaven” and “Friday I’m In Love” at Glastonbury last year.

Even her newer work has pointed back to The Cure. Rodrigo’s lead single from her upcoming album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, is “Drop Dead,” which references “Just Like Heaven.” Now, in Barcelona, that nod turns into a shared stage moment—one the crowd only gets once, in real time.

Across the weekend at Primavera Sound. The Cure performed as well. breaking out a number of live rarities for what was their first public performance since 2024. The show also came after a loss that has changed their run: it marked their first show since the death of guitarist and keyboardist Perry Bamonte in December of last year.

Rodrigo’s own timeline is set to move fast once the attention settles. You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love is due out on June 12, and after the release she will embark on a world tour running from September through spring 2027.
