Oklahoma’s Brent Venables gets brutally honest on ‘uneven’ John Mateer performance in Michigan loss
Oklahoma Sooners head coach Brent Venables doesn’t mince words when talking about John Mateer’s performance vs. the Michigan Wolverines.
The No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners suffered a brutal 17-10 Week 2 loss to the Michigan Wolverines. All eyes are on John Mateer, as the redshirt senior had quite an ugly performance. Shortly after the game, head coach Brent Venables shared his take on Mateer’s play.
During his postgame press conference, Venables admitted that the 22-year-old signal-caller played “uneven” against Michigan, according to George Stoia III of On3 Sports. He did credit Mateer for managing the game well, at the very least.
“A little uneven,” Venables said about Mateer… “Some missed throws… We have to do a cleaner job on protection… He did a good job of managing the game.”
