Oklahoma moves from rain into oppressive heat

Oklahoma heat – After a rainy weekend, Oklahoma starts the week with high temperatures and muggy air. Heat index values are expected to climb to 100 to 110 Monday and Tuesday, with a marginal severe-weather risk only in northwest Oklahoma Monday night.
OKLAHOMA CITY — The rain that lingered through the weekend is fading out, but for many in Oklahoma the relief won’t last long. A hot, dry start to the week is on track to take over, fueled by high temperatures and high dewpoints that will push heat index values into dangerous territory.
Monday and Tuesday are expected to bring heat index readings ranging from 100 to 110 across Oklahoma. The combination of heat and humidity means it will feel far worse than the air temperature, even before the sun reaches its peak.
Monday night brings the only notable shake-up: a marginal risk for severe weather for Northwest Oklahoma. Storms are expected to be extremely isolated, but they could still pack a punch—capable of producing strong wind gusts and hail up to golf ball size.
After that brief threat, the forecast settles back into heat and dryness until a cold front arrives late Thursday and brings the next chance for rain.
For the rest of the day into tonight, conditions are expected to be partly cloudy, with a 20% chance of rain for weak showers or storms that may pop up north of the Metro around I-35. Lows will fall into the low 70s. Winds are expected from the South at 25 mph.
Monday starts mostly sunny. An isolated chance for strong thunderstorms in Northwest Oklahoma can’t be ruled out, but the majority of Oklahoma is expected to stay dry. Highs are forecast in the low 90s, with South winds at 25 mph.
Tuesday continues the pattern: mostly sunny skies and highs in the low 90s again, with winds from the South at 25 mph.
The stretch ahead is shaped by one clear shift—the weekend’s wet weather giving way to a humid heat build—followed by only a limited severe-weather window late Monday night before Thursday’s cold front reintroduces rain chances.
