Officer Reassigned After Video Sparks Outrage Over Teen

Officer reassigned – A 16-year-old Fairfield student says a police officer assaulted him during a campus response to a fight, while police say he resisted restraint and struck an officer. His family insists no charges were filed after he was released, and the officer was placed on
Chaos erupted on a Fairfield High School campus before anyone could even figure out what was happening. Students were screaming, phones were recording, and one teenager, 16-year-old Maurice Williams, says a confusing moment escalated into something he’ll never forget.
Williams. a Fairfield High School sophomore who also plays football. told NBC Bay Area he didn’t realize the person grabbing him was an officer at first. He described feeling his hair being pulled and his face being hit. saying he only understood it was a police officer after he heard yelling at him.
He shared that the incident has left him struggling to sleep and still suffering from headaches. Videos and witness accounts circulating online have fueled outrage across the local community. with supporters of Williams claiming he wasn’t actively fighting anyone and that the level of force used against him was unnecessary. Many are now calling for accountability and demanding transparency about what happened in those moments.
Fairfield police say officers were responding to a fight at the school and alleged that Maurice resisted attempts to restrain him. Authorities stated that an officer used what they described as “distraction strikes” while trying to place him in handcuffs. Police also claimed Maurice struck an officer during the encounter, a version his family and others dispute.
Maurice’s mother, Rhamesha Stevenson, said the incident has changed him emotionally. “I feel like that police officer took that joy from him,” Stevenson said. “He’s not the same kid, he is not. But I’m going to make sure, everything in my power, to make sure he gets that joy back.”
According to his family, officers took Maurice into custody after the incident and later released him without filing any charges, while his supporters say he never hit anyone and believe the officer crossed the line.
Fairfield police confirmed that the officer involved has been placed on administrative reassignment while an outside investigation is underway. The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District said in a statement that. because this is an active student matter and an ongoing investigation. it is limited in what it can share. The district said what it can confirm is that the school principal has been in communication with the student’s family. It also stated the district remains focused on providing “culturally responsive care” to students and staff affected by the incident.
As the investigation moves forward, the public debate has only intensified. In the comments section on TSR’s Instagram, Roomies flooded the thread with sharply divided reactions. Some users claimed “the evidence is right there” after watching videos circulating online. Others rallied behind Maurice, demanding justice and accountability. A few commenters debated whether people should have the legal right to defend themselves during violent encounters with police.
Instagram user @blinkbuckrogers wrote, “This my child!. We doing everything to get her badge snatched!” Instagram user @winterdadon said. “idk after a certain point i feel like fighting the police should be legal😂” and Instagram user @gottaloveralph added. “STAND ON BUSINESS !!. justice for MAURICE WILLIAMS.”.
Other comments escalated further. including Instagram user @cohbeebaby writing. “The police station would be named after me once I was done.” Instagram user @slaywithdre commented. “& What’s under investigation if the evidence right here?” And Instagram user @50_shadesofcocoa86 shared. “Always under investigation but never FIRED!”.

They should just show the full video, not the cut stuff.
So the officer reassigned but everyone’s mad? That doesn’t sound like accountability, it sounds like sweeping it under the rug. If the teen was hit first then of course he’s gonna be confused.
I mean the police said he resisted and hit an officer, but the article also says no charges were filed?? That part is weird. Also “distraction strikes” sounds like they’re making it sound not violent… like cmon.
Fairfield always got drama like this. Half the time it’s just “misunderstanding” until someone’s head hurts, then suddenly it’s about procedure. If his mom says he’s not the same kid that’s really sad, but also kids at school fight all the time so I don’t know what people expect the officer to do? I just want the real story, like not just “he resisted” or “he wasn’t fighting.”
