No Doubt at The Sphere brings her back
After moving to Brazil as a teenager and being allowed to attend a No Doubt show for the first time without her parents, she later returned—solo—to The Sphere in Las Vegas, where Tom Dumont’s Parkinson’s diagnosis, Gwen Stefani’s controversy, and the loud, imm
When she walked through the general admission area at The Sphere. it took her breath away—huge. a little overwhelming. but unmistakably impressive.. The screens were already rolling images of the band from decades earlier. paired with posters and mementos from their earlier shows.. Then the lights landed and the first chords hit—right on time. and very loud inside—until her whole body reacted like it was 13 again.
Almost 30 years earlier, the moment had been more complicated.. Her family had just moved to Brazil. and she had begged her parents to let her go to a music festival with her new high school friends.. It would be her first time at a show without her parents supervising her.. They were reluctant. but after talking with other parents. they agreed it was time for their group of 13-year-old girlfriends to experience some independence.. They dropped the girls off at the stadium’s door and told them to be back by midnight.
She was thrilled because she would be seeing her favorite band, No Doubt. Her friends were thrilled about the main act, David Bowie.
Years later, she made it happen again—this time as an adult. When she saw that No Doubt was coming back with a residency at The Sphere, she said she was thrilled, not only because she had wanted to go to The Sphere for a show, but because having No Doubt play felt like a full circle.
That return wasn’t a family outing.. She left her three kids and her husband at home and decided to take a girls’ trip with one of her best friends.. Planning ahead, she and her friend mapped out fancy meals and pool hangs around the main event.. She described it as refreshing to avoid thinking about snacks. carrying water bottles. or handling meltdowns for a couple of days.. For her, it was the feeling of being herself again—“not just a mom.”
She flew to Las Vegas with a friend, leaving the kids and her husband behind.
As the show approached, the anticipation ran hot. In the days leading up to it, her nerves were “at an all-time high.” She prepped outfits, including checkered Vans, and she looked up merch prices online to figure out what she wanted to buy.
She also saw complaints about the set list. When she found the set list on Apple Music, she was confused by the criticism—because, to her, this was the “OG No Doubt,” the same No Doubt she had seen back in the 90s.
The band’s return carried other realities, too—ones that landed differently on different fans.. She said Gwen Stefani’s religious statements disappointed some longtime fans. who felt she was “choking on her contradictions.” She also shared that Tom Dumont had shared he was diagnosed with parkinson’s shortly after the band announced the residency.. For her, those facts made it clear they weren’t young anymore.
Those medical news and generational gaps also shaped her urgency to go. She described Tom Dumont’s diagnosis as something that pushed her to go to the show.
On the day of the performance, the Venetian hotel—connected to The Sphere—was packed with women around her age dressed in their best 90s punk outfits. She noticed tons of plaid, space buns, checkered Vans left and right, and “so much excitement.”
Inside, the experience became overwhelming in a way that felt physical.. Walking into the general admission area took her breath away.. The screens displayed the band from decades earlier, along with posters and mementos from earlier shows.. When the band came on right on time and the guitars blasted. her reaction was immediate: goosebumps. her body turning into a kind of conduit for all the years in between.
She said it was the first time she’d ever cried at a show. The tears weren’t abstract. She connected them to memories the band had carried with her—what it had gotten her through, the heartbreaks and indecisions, and the feeling that she never really fit in with the expectations people had for her.
And yet, she was also standing in a new life: married, with kids, with a job, in a country she said she never imagined would give her citizenship. For a second, she felt like she had made it. After all these years, she believed she became who she was meant to be—going to the beat of her own drum.
When she left the venue, she was exhausted—no voice and legs that felt done—but she was ready to do it again the next day. In her telling, the night folded 13-year-old her and 43-year-old her together. They were different, she said, yet “so the same.”

Why is Tom Dumont having Parkinson’s even in this? Like what does that have to do with the show.
This is kinda sweet honestly, but I’m confused… so she was in Brazil and then just randomly went to The Sphere alone? Respect though.
Wait so Gwen Stefani controversy is why Tom had Parkinson’s or something? I swear I saw a clip that made it sound connected lol. Either way Sphere visuals must be insane.
I read the headline and assumed it was about Gwen literally being back like as in “new album” or whatever. But it’s more like a whole story about going to concerts at 13?? Also “paired with posters and mementos” sounds like her photos are gonna go viral. I’m not even trying to be rude, I just didn’t realize The Sphere was that big inside.
