Nintendo returns to mobile with selfie-based minigames

Nintendo Pictonico – Nintendo has launched Pictonico, a new Android and iOS minigame collection that turns your photos into playable challenges. A free demo offers three games, while the full catalog is split across Volume 1 ($7.99) and Volume 2 ($5.99), bringing the total to 80 m
By the time you swipe through your camera roll, Nintendo is already asking for more than a glance.
The company has released Pictonico. a new game for Android and iOS built around one simple idea: your photos become the raw material for fast. WarioWare-like minigames. Instead of using WarioWare-style characters. Pictonico uses images you provide—either by letting the app access your photo gallery or by taking pictures inside the app.
The minigames themselves lean into the chaos that made WarioWare popular, just with a new twist. In one challenge, you’re dragging someone’s mouth to “chomp” on fruit. In another, you lather up shampoo on a person’s head. The picture-based setup is the hook, but the variety is where it tries to keep you engaged.
Pictonico’s demo is available to download for free on both the Play Store and the App Store. and it includes three minigames. To unlock the rest, Nintendo has split the collection into paid volumes: Volume 1 costs $7.99 and Volume 2 costs $5.99. In total, the game includes 80 minigames—Volume 1 contains 50, while Volume 2 offers 30.
Buying a volume doesn’t just expand the number of games. It also unlocks additional features such as challenge stages and Score Attack mode. There’s also a mix mode that lets you play minigames from both volumes at the same time.
Nintendo hasn’t had a smooth ride on mobile. but Pictonico is another attempt to win over players outside the traditional console loop. The structure of the game—layered volumes plus optional modes—makes one thing clear: this isn’t designed as a one-and-done launch. If the pattern continues, there could be additional volumes coming later.

So it’s like WarioWare but with your pics? Kinda weird.
Nintendo really charging $7.99 AND $5.99 for the rest?? I mean I get it’s 80 minigames but that still feels scummy. Also why does it need access to my photos.
Wait, it’s unlocking “Score Attack” and “mix mode” just for paying more? That sounds like the console model but on mobile. I don’t even get the point if it’s just dragging mouths to chomp fruit lol, like… is my camera roll really the game?
Is this the one where it uses your selfie to like, make a Wario character? Because I saw a TikTok and it looked like you had to put your face on a shampoo commercial?? If they’re splitting it into Volume 1 and Volume 2, you’re gonna end up paying double for the “real” stuff. I’ll try the demo I guess but I’m not liking the whole photo permission vibe.
