Ninja launched a microwave air fryer combo — and I put it to the test

If there’s one thing I like, it’s an innovative multi-tasking kitchen tool. Anything that can make cooking easier and faster is a dream. But the idea of adding yet another device to my kitchen counter? That’s usually the thing that holds me back.

However, there’s a new product from Ninja that’s the exception to the rule. Say hello to Ninja’s Crispi Microwave Air Fryer — a two-in-one microwave and air fryer that combines two of the most popular kitchen devices into one, saving you space and sanity while delivering crisp, never soggy food.

Now, this might sound a bit dramatic, but I’d confidently say this device is Ninja’s greatest launch to date.

What is the Ninja Crispi Microwave Air Fryer?

With the Crispi Microwave, Ninja finally settled the “do I need a microwave or an air fryer” debate. Combining a 1000-watt microwave and a 1700-watt air fryer into a single countertop unit, it can microwave, air-fry or combine both with Ninja’s FusionCrisp Technology. The result? perfect cooked (and crisped) food in minutes.

It features 14 total functions, including eight microwave presets (popcorn, potato, defrost, beverage, soup, frozen dinner, frozen vegetable, soften butter) and five air fry presets (max crisp, crisp, air roast, air bake and air broil) plus the FusionCrisp function.

The interior also ditches the typical turntable design in favor of an XL “flatbed,” which Ninja says delivers 40% more usable space than a standard 0.9 cu. ft. turntable microwave — enough to fit a 9″x11″ baking dish, two bags of popcorn or four bowls at once.

The microwave’s also not the only thing you’ll find in the box. It comes with a roomy 5.5-quart CleanCrisp glassware dish and crisper plate, which are both PFAS, PTFE and PFOA-free (hello non-toxic cooking!), as well as dishwasher-safe.

This dish can hold up to 10 servings — enough for six pounds of wings, four pounds of fries, an eight pound chicken or four pizza slices in one go. As for specs, the Ninja Crispi Microwave weighs just over 50 pounds and measures roughly 20.3 inches L x 17.56 inches W x 14.1 inches H.

Two things to note: the air fry and FusionCrisp functions only work with this included glassware. It’s also explicitly a countertop-only appliance, and not equipped for built-in or enclosed cabinet installation.

The testing

When it came to testing, I knew there were a few ways I could go. I was confident from the jump it would be able to complete typical tasks like reheating food and making popcorn — and it does! Pizza comes out like day one and popcorn is movie-theater perfect.

Instead, I decided to focus on what dishes I could make in this machine and chose three: a frozen side, a full meal and a dessert.

Ninja Crispi Microwave Sweet Potato Fries
If you would’ve told me a month ago I’d be making the crispiest sweet potato fries in my microwave, I wouldn’t believe you.Sarah M. Vazquez

The first (and easiest) test was air frying some frozen sweet potato fries. After spreading them evenly on the plate, I placed them in the top slot, followed the recommended time and was left with crisp, airy fries that were so good, I even got compliments on them at dinner.

Ninja Crispi Microwave Enchiladas
Homemade enchiladas ready in less that 15 minutes? Sign me up!Sarah M. Vazquez

Next was the chicken enchiladas. Now, I’ll be honest and say I was a bit nervous for this one. It’s a microwave, after all, so I was afraid that the chicken would dry out and the cheese would be burnt and inedible, but alas, my enchiladas were perfectly crisp, gooey and ready to be plated in 13 minutes.

Ninja Crispi Microwave and Air Fryer Blueberry Crisp
The perfect dessert, right out of the microwave. A dream.Sarah M. Vazquez

Last there was the blueberry crisp. Before this, the only time I’ve tried “baking” something in a microwave was when I attempted a “mug cake” circa 2013. Whipping up an entire blueberry crisp in less than 25 minutes in the microwave? Life-changing.

Below, check out a full breakdown of my favorite features of the Ninja Crispi Microwave Air Fryer.

What I like

  • It cooks food fast. Air fryers are designed to cook food fast and even so, I was surprised at how quickly I was able to put food on the table.
  • It’s space-saving. By combining two of the most used kitchen appliances into one, you’re not only saving countertop space, but storage space if you’re someone who likes to hide appliances between uses.
  • It has so many built-in presets. Multiple presets on a microwave isn’t exactly groundbreaking. What is is the amount (14 presets!) and the various different kinds. Some standouts? The soften butter and clean functions.
  • The air fryer tools are non-toxic. The air frying dish is made of borosilicate glass and the air fryer plate is ceramic for a non-toxic design.
  • It doesn’t have a turntable. Microwave turntables never fail to irritate me, whether it comes to cleaning or aligning it on the track. I didn’t think I microwave could work without one — I love being proved wrong.
  • It’s so chic. For me, microwaves have never been a kitchen appliance I ever thought of as particularly stylish, but with the glass panels, multiple color options and sleek knobs, this microwave actually looks good.
  • It has a child-safety lock. Since temperatures can get up to 450-degrees, I love that this microwave has a built-in safety lock that’ll prevent little hands from popping it open and getting burned.

Things to keep in mind

  • It’s a bit pricey. Now, is this the most expensive microwave out there? No. However, at $450, it’s definitely not the cheapest and will be an investment.

Is the Ninja’s Crispi Microwave Air Fryer worth it?

So, should you add the Ninja’s Crispi Microwave Air Fryer to your kitchen? My verdict is a resounding yes.

Ninja’s no stranger to creating game-changing tools, but I’d go so far as to call it life-changing. It saves space, cooks meals in record time and in the grand-scheme of things can help save money, too.

As a mini-oven of sorts, I know I’ll be using this more than my full-size oven, especially as we head into the dead of summer. Less energy consumption and a cooler kitchen mean a lower electric bill on two fronts. Just another tick on the pro box for me.

Now, as I mentioned above, I’m not going to sit here and pretend $450 isn’t a lot of money, but when you factor everything it can do, along with the time and possible money it can save, it’s one kitchen gadget I’m confident you won’t regret purchasing.

Ninja reinventing the microwave is not something I would have had on my bingo card for 2026, but if there’s one thing the brand is good at it’s pleasantly surprising people.
