Costco’s new warehouse at 225 East Nine Mile Road—approved by Escambia County and built into a 172,580-square-foot space—opens Thursday at 8 a.m., with a gas station, 830 parking spaces, and membership deals kicking in before the doors officially open.
By dawn Thursday, the long-awaited Costco on Nine Mile Road will be open—faster than many shoppers can plan their first trip.
The new warehouse store at 225 East Nine Mile Road, at the corner of Chemstrand Road, is scheduled to open at 8 a.m. on Thursday. It’s a 172,580 square foot Costco retail store that includes a gas station and 830 parking spaces.
Construction began at the beginning of the year after the project was approved by Escambia County. For residents watching the site take shape, the timing is now the story: less than 24 hours from opening, the warehouse is still only hours away from becoming part of everyday shopping routines.
Membership is the gate for most in-store shopping. Costco requires membership for in-store shoppers, and members must be 16 or older to apply. The pharmacy, though, is open to anyone regardless of membership.
Costco is also expected to start selling memberships at the location outside the store before the grand opening day.
For shoppers deciding what to buy first, Costco offers two membership levels for individuals or businesses. Executive membership costs $130 annually and includes an Annual 2% Reward, Costco Services Discounts, and access to shop online and in warehouses. It also includes 2 membership cards and comes with a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.
Gold Star membership costs $65 annually, and it includes shopping online and in warehouses, 2 membership cards, and the same 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.
There are also sign-up offers for newcomers. New members who have not been a Costco member in the past 18 months can receive a $20 digital Costco shop card with a Gold Star membership, or a $40 digital Costco shop card with an Executive membership.
On Thursday morning, the store’s opening time won’t just mark another retail milestone on Nine Mile Road. It will determine who walks in first—members ready to shop at 8 a.m., and new customers hoping to lock in membership and digital shop card offers on day one.
