Nikki Glaser is set to voice Priscilla, the scheming villain in Netflix’s animated fairy tale “Steps,” arriving this fall. The film stars Ali Wong, Amanda Seyfried, Stephanie Hsu, and Bette Midler, with Alyce Tzue and John Ripa directing.
Netflix’s “Steps” is gearing up for a fall arrival, and it already has its villain locked in.
Nikki Glaser. the Emmy-nominated comedian. awards show host. and roast-master. will voice Priscilla. a character described as a “schemer who will stop at nothing to control everyone around her.” Glaser is joining Ali Wong. Amanda Seyfried. Stephanie Hsu. and Bette Midler in the animated feature. directed by Alyce Tzue and John Ripa and written by Ava Tramer. James Madejski. Jen Chuck. Dana Schwartz. and Felicia Ho. The film is based on a story by Tramer, Madejski, Schwartz, Ho, Riki Lindhome, and Kate Micucci.
In a statement. Glaser said voicing Priscilla felt like “a cathartic joy. ” describing the character as “the jealous. try-hard. wannabe Princess. ” driven by “deep-seated insecurities of unlovability and inadequacy.” She added that the role was “quite a stretch” because those traits are “all characteristics that I do not at all relate to as a woman who has spent two decades clawing my way through show business.”.
“Steps” flips the usual fairy-tale shine. The film is built around Cinderella’s “evil stepsisters. ” turning the story into a fractured version of what comes after the glass slipper era. Lilith (Wong) steals the Fairy Godmother’s (Midler) magic wand and hijacks the Royal Ball with her sister Margot (Hsu). breaking the Cinderella story and setting the kingdom on a collision course with Priscilla’s tyrannical rule. The official synopsis says Priscilla “swoops in and snatches the throne.”.
Now Lilith must team up with Cinderella (Seyfried) to fight biker trolls, outrun evil henchmen, and escape the Screaming Woods on an epic quest to save the kingdom—while also, the synopsis stresses, putting their relationship at the center of the adventure.
Behind the scenes. “Steps” is produced by Amy Poehler. Jane Hartwell. and Kim Lessing. with Poehler and Lessing producing for Paper Kite Productions. It will also be the first film fully produced in-house within Netflix Animation Studios. using facilities in Vancouver and Sydney. formerly Animal Logic.
Netflix’s animation pipeline doesn’t slow down after “Steps.” The streamer’s 2026 slate includes “Swapped” (a co-production with Skydance Animation), “I Am Frankelda,” the stop-motion marvel, and Brad Bird’s “Ray Gunn” (also from Skydance Animation), which is due out later this year.
