Nickelodeon child actor Jennifer Hyatt Tedmori documented her “crashout” over teeny tiny residual checks from her time on Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide.
The star, who knows exactly how fascinated people are with TV show residual checks, shared a video on Instagram, which showed her in her car, preparing to open a large pile of checks.
“Residual checks are one of those weird parts of being a child actor that people are always curious about, so I figured I’d open them with you,” she began.
“I have been procrastinating for months on opening this, because it is a b****,” she said to the camera. “Some of these could be a penny. Some of these could be $5. So I figured you could be my body double and go through these with me.”
While opening the checks and labeling her reaction as a “crashout,” Tedmori explained that each one was for a specific episode. They ended up ranging from 2 cents to a whopping $21.43 for an episode of 90210, on which she played “goth girl” for two episodes. None of her residuals for Ned’s were for more than $1.11, and most were for under a dollar. Tedmori’s entire pile of checks added up to a paltry $30.06.
“All of two cents,” she said angrily after opening the first check. “See all this paper I’m just, like, littering in my car for two f****** cents? I know, hard times, economy is s***, but like, two cents? Like, keep it! Just f****** keep it. I don’t want it.”
Anticipating possible backlash, she added later on in the video, “Don’t come for me about throwing away a nickel. Y’all have f****** let a nickel get lost in your couch. Don’t come for me.”
Tedmori knows that income isn’t guaranteed from jobs she did such a long time ago, but she has an issue with the form the payments come in. “Now I get it. It’s been a long time. I’m surprised that I’m getting anything,” she said. ‘But 3 cents? It cost you 75 cents to send this envelope, and the way it’s adding up, the math ain’t mathing.”
After adding up her grand total, she said, “Maybe I can go buy a coffee at Starbucks. Do I even report this to the IRS? They’re not even gonna give a f***.”
She concluded, “I hope you all found this video entertaining. I get questions on my residuals all the time, so there you go.”
Tedmori portrayed Doris Trembly on Ned’s between 2004 and 2006, appearing in 11 episodes. While she’s appeared in a handful of videos and shorts since then, she now works as a dancer and a lawyer, as well as making social media content.
