NFP suspends leaders amid purge after Mbali Shinga expulsion

The National Freedom Party (NFP) has suspended four senior leaders in a suspected purge of supporters of its expelled KwaZulu-Natal chairperson, Mbali Shinga. The decision was taken at a joint meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) held over the weekend. KZN secretary Zodwa Mtshali’s suspension follows her public statements backing Shinga. The party says Mtshali is suspended for three months pending an investigation into her conduct. They’ve all been removed from the party’s NEC and National Working Committee. The NFP says the decisions aim to strengthen discipline, accountability and organisational stability.
