New Sydney spots from June: rotis, omakase, kebabs

King Street’s new Thai-ish dining room is the spot for house-made rotis, zingy kingfish larb and a particularly excellent omelette. • First look: Super 44 delivers top-notch Margs and Mucho’s signature all-out fit-out to a well-loved King Street space. Plus, Tajin-spiced popcorn on the house. • Beachy locals are devoted to Scandi bakery The Vicar’s Daughter, for its glossy cardamom buns, slow-fermented bread and more. We’re late to the party – it opened in early 2025 – but we’re happy to be here now. •
First look: with its star sushi chef, Fishnets is a hot catch for a beachy eastern suburb. Drop in for omakase-grade sushi, share-ready tuna katsu and Mapo gelato to finish. • Taco & Vino brings Mexico City’s hottest taco to a leafy Sydney block. • First look: a new food truck is serving a “completely magnificent” German-style kebab that one Broadsheet writer can’t stop thinking about. • Visit Moon & Back’s new gallery-like space for lifestyle and design objects from around the world – with
a side of dessert. • It’s a big call, but we’re doing it: Sydney’s never had a cafe and wine bar like Ca Phe Mai. Check • First look: after 30 years, a couple revives their ’80s patisserie in Sydney – with a retro strawberry gateau and a blackcurrant number using fruit from Provence. • The new Three Blue Ducks welcomes diners to a revamped heritage farmhouse, for farm-to-plate dining led by a former Quay chef that’s well worth the quick trip south. Why are they calling it Thai-ish like that’s a real category? If it’s good just say good lol.
This is all just food reviews disguised as news. Also “completely magnificent” German kebab?? Bro I’m not seeing how that matters to anyone here.
Wait so Ca Phe Mai is like, a cafe and wine bar and also somehow the first one Sydney has ever had? That can’t be right… my aunt had wine in a cafe in 2009 or whatever.
Omakase sushi sounds expensive and I don’t even trust sushi anymore tbh. Mapo gelato though?? why do they keep mixing things up like that. Also the King Street part confuses me, is King Street in the UK or is this in Sydney Australia??
