MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A case that shook the Myrtle Beach community is now the subject of a new Netflix documentary series.
Death of the Pastor’s Wife premieres Aug. 26 on Netflix. The three-part series chronicles the life and death of Mica Miller, the estranged wife of former Solid Rock Church pastor John Paul Miller.
Mica Miller’s body was found at Lumber River State Park in Robeson County, North Carolina, on April 27, 2024. Authorities ruled her death a suicide.
The case drew national attention amid questions surrounding her estranged husband, John Paul Miller, who was later indicted on federal charges of cyberstalking and making false statements to investigators.
Netflix said the documentary features never-before-seen footage and firsthand accounts from friends and family speaking out for the first time.
“What stayed with us about Mica’s story was how hard she seemed to be fighting to be heard,” directors Julia Willoughby Nason and Mike Gasparro said in a statement. “We made this series to ask difficult questions, listen closely to Mica’s own voice, and make sure that what she was trying to say is not forgotten.”
Nason and Gasparro also directed Murdaugh Murders and American Murder: Gabby Petito.
Where the case stands
John Paul Miller, 46, of Myrtle Beach, faces federal charges of cyberstalking and making false statements to federal investigators. He pleaded not guilty in January 2026.
A federal grand jury in Columbia indicted John Paul Miller in December 2025.
The indictment alleges that beginning in November 2022, he sent unwanted and harassing communications to Mica Miller until her death.
Alleged behavior outlined in the indictment includes:
- Posting a nude photo of Mica online without her consent
- Placing tracking devices on her vehicle
- Contacting her more than 50 times in a single day
- Interfering with her finances and daily activities
- Damaging her vehicle’s tires
Authorities say John Paul Miller told investigators he hired a private investigator to prevent Mica Miller from purchasing firearms. Prosecutors allege he actually hired the investigator to cyberstalk her.
John Paul Miller faces up to five years in prison for cyberstalking and up to two years for making false statements.
His case has seen repeated delays.
On Wednesday, a federal judge signed an order continuing the case from the September 2026 term of court to the October 2026 term.
The judge signed the order, finding that “the ends of justice are best served” by granting the continuance.
John Paul Miller has not been charged in connection with Mica Miller’s death.
