Nemesis Arrives on Netflix in 1 Day: Crime Thriller

Netflix releases Nemesis Season 1 globally on May 14, with Courtney A. Kemp’s new crime thriller set in Los Angeles.

A new cat-and-mouse crime thriller is landing faster than you can say “wrong move. ” and the countdown is almost over for Netflix viewers.. Nemesis Season 1 officially hits Netflix globally on May 14. bringing a fresh set of high-stakes rivals and a familiar appetite for tension to the streamer’s crime lineup.

Netflix ordered Nemesis, a drama series that draws comparisons to the acclaimed 2014 Starz phenomenon Power.. The connection isn’t accidental: the project is built by original Power co-creator Courtney A.. Kemp, and it leans into the same kind of pulse-quickening atmosphere where law enforcement pressure meets criminal ambition.

Set in Los Angeles, Nemesis centers on two men operating on opposing sides of the law.. Coltrane Wilder (Y’lan Noel) runs the kind of criminal operation built for maximum risk. while Isaiah Stiles (Matthew Law) is a seasoned detective who understands what it takes to stop Wilder before ambition turns into catastrophe.. Their drive doesn’t just put them at odds—it places them in a relationship that feels constantly on the verge of destruction.

The series is also designed around the idea that crime and the response to crime can’t be separated.. Wilder’s specialty is high-stakes heists. and Stiles’s skill set is built for investigation and pursuit. but Nemesis goes deeper than the mechanics of pursuit.. Reported themes include crime. stopping crime. family. and ambition—elements presented as inseparable forces that shape every decision the characters make.

Those expecting a Power-like blend of smart criminals. obsessed detectives. trapped spouses. and the ever-present sense that there’s more going on than anyone admits should feel right at home.. Kemp described her love for cat-and-mouse chases. noting in an interview that writing them is difficult because it requires believing both sides truly have a shot.

Nemesis is built as a true two-person showdown. with Wilder and Stiles engaging in a dynamic that can look almost soulmate-like in its intensity. even though they are. in reality. nemeses.. The chemistry is framed as fuel—something that feeds their obsession and pushes both men closer to the edge. with their actions likely to carry consequences beyond just their own survival.

Beyond the leads, Nemesis also features Michael Potts, Gabrielle Dennis, Jeff Pierre, Domenick Lombardozzi, Cleopatra Coleman, and more, rounding out a cast meant to keep pressure simmering around the central rivalry.

While Nemesis prepares to arrive on Netflix, the larger Power universe isn’t finished with its momentum. It was reported that the flagship Power series concluded in 2020, Power Book II wrapped in 2024, Power Book III is expected to end this year, and Power Book IV concluded earlier this year.

At the same time, Starz has another chapter in development: Power: Origins.. The series is set to focus on Ghost and Tommy during their early days before the characters became the men audiences met in the 2014 series. and it has already cast its leads—Spencer Moore II as James “Ghost” St.. Patrick and Charlie Mann as Tommy Egan.

With Nemesis landing globally in a single day. Netflix is essentially sharpening two blades at once: one franchise-ready hit now. and a crime universe ecosystem continuing to expand across TV in parallel.. For viewers who’ve followed these worlds for years. the arrival of a Power-adjacent thriller offers that same rush—especially when the stakes are personal. the rivalry is constant. and every move seems to create a counter-move.
