The city is partnering with neighborhood barbers and stylists to help students head back to class feeling confident and looking fresh.
After a summer of swimming, playing, and soaking up the sun, your kid’s hair may be ready for a little TLC.
Boston is making that back-to-school cut a little easier on families’ wallets. The city’s Office of Cultural Affairs has launched a citywide initiative offering free or low-cost haircuts and hairstyles for Boston youth ahead of the new school year.
The program partners with barbershops and salons across the city to help Boston families get their kids ready to head back to the classroom feeling — and looking — their best.
Families must register by Sunday, Aug. 31. Registered participants can redeem their haircut or style at participating shops from Sept. 1 through Sept. 11.
“For many families, getting ready for a new school year is about more than school supplies,” said Alexandra Valdez, Director of Cultural Affairs for Boston, in a statement. “It’s also about making sure our young people walk into the classroom feeling confident, proud, and ready to be themselves.”
The initiative is meant to reflect Cultural Affairs’ commitment to uplift Boston’s neighborhood businesses while supporting families,.
“Barbershops are more than businesses in our neighborhoods,” said Felix, owner of Felix Barbershop in Roslindale, whose last name was not provided, in a statement. “They are places where families connect, and community is built.”
