NBC cancels The Hunting Party after two seasons

NBC cancels – NBC has canceled The Hunting Party after two seasons as it reshapes its 2026–27 lineup. The network has stopped production but is shopping the series for a new home, with Netflix seen as a possible landing spot after the show’s Netflix spike.

On the last stretch toward NBC’s 2026–27 broadcasting calendar, the network moved another title into the crosshairs—quietly canceling The Hunting Party after just two seasons.

The decision comes as NBC continues a wider content overhaul heading into the next cycle. Just weeks earlier, NBC had already canceled the medical drama Brilliant Minds and the comedy Stumble—Stumble earning a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes from fans.

The Hunting Party, created by JJ Bailey, was the last 2025–26 broadcast series whose fate had not been determined. NBC postponed the call until after the upfronts, giving executives extra time to evaluate how the show performed across both linear television and streaming.

The series did find momentum when it started streaming on Netflix and Peacock, according to the reporting. It even saw a slight ratings bump after the move—but not enough to change NBC’s decision.

NBC considered two paths that might have kept the show alive: a third season on the broadcast network or a shift to becoming a Peacock original. In the end, after “some number-crunching,” neither option “panned out.”

Even with NBC stepping away from continuing production, the story isn’t fully over. NBC is now actively shopping the series for a new home, with a resurrection deal still the hope.

In a newsletter response. TV insider Matt Mitovich said there’s no official word on which streamers or networks are in the running. The show is still being circulated. with production exploring options for a comeback—though Mitovich stressed it is “too early” to report anything concrete. A source close to production reportedly assured him that The Hunting Party is “definitely exploring” options for a new home.

The latest reason Netflix remains in the conversation is straightforward: the show’s viewership spiked when its second season hit Netflix. That bump is one reason Netflix is still expected to be a potential landing spot.

At this point in the calendar, though, any return by 2027 could be a longshot.
