NATJOINTS deploys security nationwide for voter registration weekend

The National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS) has assured South Africans that extensive security measures are in place for this weekend’s voter registration drive ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections. NATJOINTS says law enforcement agencies have been deployed at registration stations, along key routes, and at identified hotspots across the country to safeguard the process. The structure says contingency plans have been activated to address any incidents that could disrupt voter registration activities. South African Police Service spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says authorities are
prepared to respond quickly to any security-related challenges. Mathe says, “NATJOINTS assures the public that contingency plans have been activated to respond swiftly to any security-related incidents that may threaten the smooth running of the voter registration weekend. SAPS will maintain a heightened operational presence throughout the country and continuously monitor the security environment to ensure the safety and security of all participants.” “NATJOINTS therefore calls on all South Africans to conduct themselves responsibly and to contribute towards a peaceful voter registration weekend,” adds Mathe.
