Natalie Maines posts Trump rant, sparks #epsteinfiles surge

Natalie Maines reignited a long-running political fight on Tuesday, May 19, posting a photo of Donald Trump and publishing a sharp statement that uses the phrase “fugly slut” and references the #epsteinfiles hashtag. Her post also points to a prior revelation
Natalie Maines didn’t just speak up about politics on Tuesday—she pressed “post” and watched the internet light up.
On May 19, the performer shared a photo of President Donald Trump and paired it with a blistering statement. In the caption. Maines wrote. “Our democracy is disappearing right before our eyes.” She then doubled down with a direct insult. calling him “this fugly slut. ” adding that he was “using your gas money to pay the insurrectionists.” She also mocked the idea that Trump’s attention-grabbing behavior would change anything. writing. “But don’t worry about it. I’m sure posting selfies will fix everything.”.
Maines also addressed moderation and visibility. She said, “My last post that called him a fugly slut got removed. We’ll see how long this one lasts.” Then she urged action: “Repost and help the message live.”
The post leaned into her broader political framing through hashtags, including “#epsteinfiles,” “#democracy,” “#freespeech,” and “#fuglyslut,” along with “Named 1M times in the #epsteinfiles” and “#epsteinfiles #democracy #freespeech #fuglyslut.”
That “1M times” line landed in a context already familiar to political watchers. Earlier, Rep. Jamie Raskin had revealed in February that searches for “Trump” in the unredacted Jeffrey Epstein files returned over a million results.
Maines’ latest outburst echoes a much earlier chapter of her public life. More than two decades ago. she was performing alongside The Chicks—formerly the Dixie Chicks—in 2003. when she criticized George W. Bush and denounced the impending Iraq War. Those comments triggered major blowback, affecting the group’s album and tour sales. She apologized at the time, then later took back that apology years afterward.
The Chicks are also preparing to tour this summer, even as Maines keeps drawing attention to her politics online.
