Natalie Maines calls Trump a “fugly slut”

Natalie Maines of The Chicks returned to Instagram Monday to attack President Donald Trump in unusually harsh language, calling him a “fugly slut” and saying he is using Americans’ gas money to pay “insurrectionists.” In the same post, she urged fans to repost
When Natalie Maines posted on Instagram Monday, she didn’t just come back with a political swipe. She came back swinging.
The Chicks singer. who had gone inactive for a stretch on the account. used a slur-laced message aimed directly at President Donald Trump. writing. “Our democracy is disappearing right before our eyes.” She then added. “This fugly slut is using your gas money to pay the insurrectionists. But don’t worry about it. I’m sure posting selfies will fix everything. My last post that called him a fugly slut got removed. We’ll see how long this one lasts. Repost and help the message live.”.
Maines paired the words with photos of the Jan. 6, 2021 siege on the U.S. Capitol, tying her latest message to the moment she clearly still can’t move past.
The political thrust comes at a time when Trump has sparked fresh concerns about whether he would use his Justice Department’s $1.8 billion so-called Anti-Weaponization Fund to compensate convicted Jan. 6 Capitol rioters. Maines’ post frames that possibility as a moral betrayal rather than an administrative debate.
She also pointed to what happened the last time she tried to post the same kind of attack. Maines wrote that her previous note calling Trump a “fugly slut” was removed, and she told followers they’d find out “how long this one lasts.” She urged readers to repost and keep her message from fading.
That earlier warning about Trump is dated Jan. 6, 2021. In that longer message, she wrote, “This mentally diseased baby man racist is in control of the red button at this very moment,” and continued, “He needs to go. It’s enough! You’re fired! Go away. Leave us alone.”
Maines’ history with Republicans goes beyond Trump. In 2003, she criticized George W. Bush at a concert in London. and the backlash she and the bandmates faced then became an early lesson in how quickly political controversy can spill into an entertainment career—radio stations stopped playing their songs. and The Chicks became an also-ran on the charts.
The band itself, now known as The Chicks, has won 13 Grammys. They were previously known as the Dixie Chicks, but rebranded in 2020, reportedly ditching “Dixie” to disassociate themselves from the Confederacy.
On a day when Trump’s actions and the government funds tied to them are already under scrutiny. Maines’ Instagram return was less about building consensus and more about keeping one message visible. Her message doesn’t ask for debate—it demands attention. and it spells out how she believes the country is being pushed in the wrong direction.
